NT06 wow !

Post by NapalmDeath » Wed Jul 05, 2006 6:54 am

Just setup the Silverstone NT06 in my SG-01E, and wow. I thought the cpu would burn up, since I modified my Enermax Liberty 400W fan from the stock 800-2400rpm (noisy) to a Nexus 300-800rpm fan, but it’s doing well. I’m running folding@home to load the cpu, and it’s only hitting 41C.

I’m using the Sensors View software and can poll temps on the CPU, MB, PWR, and HD. The motherboard is an Asus A8N-VM CSM, and I know the cpu is a temp diode in the cpu, the pwr I’m not sure how it’s getting a reading? ATX 2.0 spec? HD is from the SMART readout, and there is also a MB temp, that I’m not sure where the sensor is located.

The MB temp seems to match the CPU temp, but lags behind by a degree. The PWR is cool to watch since the nexus fan although 0.3 Amps, doesn’t spin up initially, and needs the PWR temp to read 29C before what I imagine is 7V applied to spin up. It tops out at 761 rpm. Barely audible.

I also put in a Zalman VF-900 which is a nice soft whooshing sound, and keep the 80mm Yate Loon fan on the HD at 5V to keep the HD at 38-40C.

Overall

CPU 41C
MB 41C
PWR 37C
HD 38C

PWR fan (PSU has 2 wire rpm breakout wire) 768 rpm.
VF-900 at 5-7V, and 80mm HD fan at 5-7V.

Anyone with the Asus board know where exactly the MB temp sensor is located?
Sensor View reports its as W83627EHF, Sensor 3
CPU is same chip, Sensor 2, PWR same chip sensor 1

I need to run a graphic intensive game, to see if cpu load along with gpu load puts me in the red.
I can always mod the 120mm PSU fan again, but with the Silverstone 120mm fan included with the NT06, and use the nice slot control knob to throttle between 800-2400 rpm. Hopefully not, as I prefer the auto spin up of my Nexus mod.

Anyone else using NT06, and getting similar temps?
I plan to go from my AMD Athlon 64 (venice core) +3200 to an X2 dual core +3800 at the end of the month, curious how that will skew temps.

(this is also posted in the SFF forums, as I also lurk there in addition to SPCR)

i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong but i think you'll find that the PWR temp sensor relates to the mosfets next to the cpu socket that change the +12v to the appropriate voltages for you cpu. sometimes called PWM or VRM. i don't think it's got anything to do with the psu.

oh, and your sig is unreadable :P

Not sure why my sig isn't working.
It looks fine in the profile.
