It was discussed a while ago here. People said it was quiet, but not silent. (maybe 25-27dBA?). Sorry, no personal experience.

I bet it's quieter. It has a notebook hard drive, integrated graphics and only 1 fan, which should run at low speed most of the time.

i have no direct experience, but i have read several reviews both on the forums here and other sites. IIRC, at idle it is pretty good, but with any sustained load the blower fan is too loud for the average SPCRer. it is definitely NOT "very silent".

Thanks a lot for the replies!
I'll take some more considerations before I purchase! :)

I have the older macMini Power PC G4 1.5hz. I use it for general tasks, coding using emacs, surfing the web, email, test ftp server, etc. At idle I consider it to be silent. I have a Cambridge Soundworks radio that I use for a speaker with the mac mini. The radio has a very slight hum that is noticeable from about two feet away when there is no music on, this hum is much louder than the mac mini. The cd combo drive is very loud, so if you are reading a CD it is loud. If the CPU ramps up turning on the fan then it is loud, but this rarely ever happens with the kind of useage that I am doing. So, I would say it is very quiet unless you planned on doing gaming or some other CPU intensive activity.

MacMini

Hi,

I got my sister a MacMini (PPC). And it's absolutely silent, except on boot up (fan check) and CD/DVD useage.

Also, I recommend you not to install Windows and keep OSX. Really.

Tell us what you did!

Salut,
Sinner
