best 120mm Heartercore/rad for low flow fan

Post by Twill » Fri Dec 31, 2004 1:21 pm

Hey guys,

For those of you who have any experience with it, any idea what the best 120mm rad would be for the quiet/lowflow/low static pressure fans that we use?

I have heard that single pass ones are good, but could you elaborate on that for me...I'm still new to this :)

Thanks

The best one for a single low speed 120 like the orange Nexus fans is supposedly Black Ice Pro. I had pretty good results with that, but I was using a pair of them--of course, I have a pretty hefty heat load, with a ClawHammer at 2.6GHz & 1.75V with a Storm G4 block and a 6800GT with 6800 Ultra voltage at 435/1175 and an NV-68 block. The original Black Ice Pros were four-pass, but the latest ones are two-pass. For more on it, do a search in these forums for Black Ice or for BIP. You might also want to check out their web site.

I was thinking about setting up a push-pull with a 120mm and 92mm nexus setup (with the 92mm only ramping up at higher temps). And I had heard that heatercores were cheaper and better than the BIPs. I'm one of those poor college students (arent we all) so cash it tight...and I'm building in a shuttle SFF box so, so is space to say the least :)

Still think the BIP is going to be the best?

Thanks for the quick reply

No; in that case I think you're best off looking for a standard heatercore, one that's less thick, and somehow fits your Shuttle.

Good luck.

Thanks, I will indeed need it :)

Any suggestiopn on the heatercore, or will the 2-302 be the best?

I'll probably go with that new pump for the mac that I cant remember the name of :)

Thanks Ed

Laing DDC seems to be the ideal pump for your situation; it is small, runs on 12V DC (and not much power at that), vibrates little for a pump of such strong head, quite quiet and the fact that inlet and outlet are parallel makes for easy fitment in a Shuttle's tight confines. It is available from Danger Den. Swiftech also sells the same pump, rebadged as their MCP-350 pump. Keep in mind that the pump only comes with 3/8" fittings.

That's the one, thanks.

And 3/8ths is perfect...1/2 inch wont bend tight enouhg, especially with a 120mm rad mounted internally ;)

Now to just come up with the funds :)

Have a great new year ed
