Running Hot?

Post by stealth658 » Sun Feb 27, 2005 10:42 am

Hey, I recently bought and set up the Swiftech H20-120-SB watercooling kit for my Athlon XP 2500+ because my old heatsink was either too hot, or too loud, depending on the fan controller settings.. So I set it up, no leaks, seems like theres good waterflow between all the components, but the damn thing runs at 48ºC idle.. That's the same, if not hotter than my old heatsink at 1500 RPM.. Anyone know what I can do to get it to run a little bit cooler? I'm not OCing (yet) either..

btw I did apply the Arctic Silver Ceramique (but maybe not enough, I was a little skimpy on the thermal paste)..

I think you know the answer already :) Try reapplying the water block. The rad could be bigger but it should not cause a problem for a barton.

How does the block attatch? On my DD Maze 3 I had to screw it down considerably more than I thought I would. It made my temps drop from around 45C to sub 40C (on an XP2400 t'bred). Just be very careful!

Make sure the AS is forming a thin layer over the chip, if you use too much it will mean temps are too high too.

Can you overclock it further than you used to be able to?

Temp sensors lie, Mhz do not.
