Beware the Kraken!

Post by Takuwind » Thu Jan 14, 2016 11:27 am

I know I probably just drew the short stick and the reviews of this product are overwhelmingly positive, but...

After months of researching and buying parts, I finally got the final piece. Last night was going to be Power-On night! But.. the Kraken X41 started leaking fluid even as I was installing it.

Brand new - VERY carefully handled. Clearly a defect.

NOW, I am starting to re-think my strategy and am starting to look at air coolers again. The only reason I went Kraken was due to paranoia regarding bent Skylakes. I know -- there is now a list of "safe" air coolers now, but again: paranoia.

Anyway, off to the SPCR Air Coolers forum!

P.S. if you're curious about my build:

Case: Prodigy M
MB: Asus Maximus GENE VIII
CPU: i5-6600K
Drive: Samsung 950 Pro M.2
Card: ASUS STRIX GTX 970
RAM: 32 GB G.SKILL TridentZ DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000)
PSU: Corsair RMx RM550X
Fans: (4) Noiseblocker eLoop Series B-12-2
CPU Cooling: ??? TBD ???

I don't know. I haven't done much overclocking in the last 10 years. Will eventually get around to playing with it.
Probably shoot for at least 4.7 GHz, maybe 4.8. Silicon Lottery is getting 70% of their 6600K's to 4.7 and 38% to 4.8.
