9800GTX would be okay but why bother? Get a lot cheaper 8800 GTS or 8800 GT. 9800 GTX is nothing but slightly powered up and OC'ed GTS. Don't fall the marketing. Its good OC card but so is 8800 GTS. I do not see why you should buy a lot more when you get almost identical card with lesser.

Of course cheapest option would be that you change your current VGA cooler in AC accelero and mount it with 120mm fan.

toms says they are very loud and drink way more watts than they should for the increase in performance.

the 8800GT is far better efficiency and the quietest out of the current top of the line cards., and of course half the price of the 9800GTX.

The 9800GTX isnt worth the extra money compared to the 8800GTS 512, 9600GT or 8800GT. But if you really must have a higher 3DMark score than your friends and can afford it (and put up with the louder stock fan and higher power consumption), then go ahead.
Oh and yes, i think your CPU will be a bottleneck for most games if you get a 9800GTX, even overclocked.

id also like to add that the 9800 is not actually worthy of its 9 series name as the chip and memory are the same as the 8800gts only with this longer card theres better cooling provided which can support the higher clock/mem speeds.

its a bit of a cheat by nvidia and as a long time nvidia user im a liottle dissapionted.

the 9800GX2 however is far better and the current market leader, but again its also a cheat card as it offers a combo version of previous cards with more memory with a few extra stream processors. Nvidia are just slapping existing models together (the 9800GX2 simply being two cards in sli in one 'box') tbh if you need to boost your graphics go for a nice cheap 8800gt for the next 6 months until nvidia bring out somthing truely worthy of a new series name (we are talking a new core running better, higher bit and perhaps even a smaller fabrication -who knows) down the line.

And yes im a bit of a cheap skate, but oyu gotta ask yourself why a HUGE company in the front lines of graphics cards is doing what they are doing by reforming existing technologys - they simply arnt challenged by competitors and therfore riding the wave intul they need to get really thinking - they are there to make money out of you and me - dont be taken in by every benchmark or bragging rights.

you would regreat saying "i spent XXX on a top of the line card that was smashed by the next gen value card 6 months later"

i hope you get my angle here

I have to agree with going against the 9800gtx. For the less than the price of 1 9800gtx you can get 2 8800gt's in sli along with a nice aftermarket cooler for both (tbh, 1 8800gt is really enough). Heck, you could probably get an athlon x2 6400+ with the remaining money (and sell your 5200+ on ebay).

My system is similar to yours. Check out my pics here:
