Replacing PSU fan

Post by grandpatzer » Thu Oct 27, 2011 6:23 pm

So I have a 500w PSU with built in 120mm fan.

Can I put a Zalman 5v or 7v adapter to new fan and then plug it directly on to the PSU?

I have bunch of no-name, scythe fans that are not ball bearing, hopefuly this is not a big problem?

If you can swap the fan in your PSU, then yes, you can put a Zalman resistor between your new fan and the electrical source. But then I would suggest you that the fan should not be powered by the small pins inside the PSU, but by the mo-bo, fancontroller, molex etc.

You don't mention what PSU you are using. That piece of information may be useful to determine whether it is possible to swap the fan.

Thank you for reply.

I was hoping to connect the zalman adapter directly to PSU, maybe wishful thinking.

THe PSU is a old ~2006 mode that came with my Nexuz Breeze case.
The name of the PSU is Nexus silent breeze 500w

The 120mm fan has red and black wire soldered to a green PCB.

I guess I could cut it off and wire in another fan or connect another fan to motherboard.
