DDR memory - what to look for?

Does any characteristic of DDR memory have any impact on the quietness of a setup?

More specifically, if you don't overclock the RAM, does heat emission vary depending on memory stock speed, latency and other parameters?

TIA.

No characteristic of ram has any direct impact on noise or heat. It is generally considered insignificant.

The only indirect characteristic of RAM that has any indirect impact on heat and noise is its speed rating. If you plan on overclocking your processor using the FSB, you may want a higher speed RAM.

Generally speaking no. RAM can be known to 'screech' but that is dependant on motherboard, power load and possibly afew other interactions. Usually you can't say whether a particular stick of RAM will screech or not.

Heat emission can vary depending on memory stock speed, latency and other parameters. Bear in mind though that most (all?) of the big name RAM makers offer lifetime warantees. If the RAM isn't sold with a heatspreader then it doesn't need one (at stock settings). I think some high-performance brands put heat spreaders on all their sticks whether they need them or not - its more marketing.
