how this look for an upgrade

Post by ereinion » Sun Jul 24, 2005 12:30 pm

Hi,

I am looking to upgrade my system an I would like your opinion about it, an suggestion if you have. Planning to make the buying mid-august.
I already have:
HDD->2 seagate barracuda 120gb sata
HSF->Zalman cpns7000b alcu
Keaboard, monitor, speaker and soundcard.

Here the parts I am considering, BTW, going for an AMD system;

Motherboard
1-DFI lanparty UT NF4 ultra-d
2-ASUS A8N-E

CPU
1-AMD athlon 64 3200+ venice
2-AMD athlon 64 x2 4400+ (maybe x2 4000 when if come out by than)

Ram
1- OCZ EL PLATINUM REV.2 PC3200 1GB 2X512MB DDR CL 2-2-2-5 184PIN DIMM 250$
2- MUSHKIN REDLINE HP PC3200 1GB DDR 2X512MB DDR 184PIN DIMM200$
3- MUSHKIN REDLINE XP3500 PC3500 1GB 2X512MB DDR 184PIN DIMM
225$

Case
Antec P180

PSU
ENERMAX EG495P-VE NOISETAKER 485W POWER SUPPLY ATX12V 24 PIN P4 & PCI-E READY

Videocard
(brand) ATI x800xl PCI-E

I don't know if I gonna OC, probably but wanna read more about it (I googling some guide but hard to find a good one, if you have any link that would be apreciate). If I OC, i don't want to increase Vcore, since I am on air cooling, even if my HSF is a good one.

Here the question I have
1-CPU question
I don't know yet if my budget will be OK for the x2 core. One thing I'd like to know about the 3200+ is what are it's performance in multi-tasking (still googling this but I would like some personnal info on this too)? The multi-tasking I do with my PC (intel 2.4ghz with HT) is mostly DL + listening to music + firefox ( with 2-3 tab open) and gaming (anarchy-online). When I play a more recent game, most of the time, I cut the music. As you see, My multi-tasking isn't an hardcore one, like ripping a cd/dvd while listhening to music and DL and playing doom 3. Right now, I have diseable HT to "feel" how my multi-tasking would be on a single but would like to know how it is on an AMD CPU.

2-Ram question
Both the OCZ and mushkin got good review but mushkin need active cooling (fan blowing directly on it) and both mushkin are cheaper than the OCZ one. Any comment or experience with those ram??

All the price I have write are in CDN $

If you're not going to OC, don't spend that much money on RAM and get a passive motherboard.
