Planning System Build for June/July

Post by Shining Arcanine » Fri Apr 07, 2006 3:18 pm

I am planning a new system build for June/July; ideally, I would like to build it now as my AIW 9700 Pro died on me so I have no gaming rig but I want to build it around the Conroe and G71 processors and Conroe is not out yet. The specifications are as follows:

Intel E6600 Processor
Intel D975XBX Motherboard
eVGA GeForce 7900 GT
Corsair 667MHz ValueSelect DDR2 RAM
Thermalright XP-90
Zalman ZM80D-HP

I plan to reuse most of my existing PC's parts, which include:

Antec P150 Case
Antec Phantom 350 PSU
Western Digital 320GB Hard Drive
eVGA NVTV Dual Tuner Card
Creative X-Fi Sound Card
Samsung SM-352B Combination Optical Drive
Memorex Floppy Drive
Antec TriCool 120mm fan

I plan on having only one fan in this PC, the Antec TriCool 120mm Case Fan (it is set to low) and I will be using the Thermalright 775 Adapter on the XP-90 with Arctic Silver 5 on both the CPU and the GPU. My Western Digital Hard Drive is already suspended in my current system. Here are the places where I am planning to buy the parts:

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... e=85016-47 - ValueSelect Memory
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... ode=240995 - D975XBX
http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.a ... &family=22 - GeForce 7900 GT
http://www.bestbyteinc.com/index.html?s ... -TRI-RM775 - 775 Adapter
http://www.bestbyteinc.com/index.html?s ... K-TRI-XP90 - XP-90
http://www.bestbyteinc.com/index.html?s ... IM-ARS-535 - Arctic Silver 5
http://www.bestbyteinc.com/index.html?s ... SK-ZAL-80D - ZM80-D

214.99 + 151.50 + 299.99 + 6.95 + 69.73 = 743.16

After shipping and handling the total cost will be $743.16 before Conroe. Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

I think things will change alot by July. If you are not in a hurry you should wait a bit more.
Thanks

I cannot play Battlefield 2 or anything else for that matter and Media Center 2005 is disfunctional. With the cheap Radeon 7000 I brought, I can literally see Firefox repaint, as well as every other window load. This is urgent. The only problem is that Conroe is not out so I am waiting for Conroe but planning every single component now.

That's assuming Conroe will be available for retail sale in early Q3, not late Q3. I too am waiting for Conroe to come out. My Athlon XP-M 2600+ has been reliable for the past 4+ years, but I am definitely itching for a powerful upgrade.

Check and update your video drivers. The default windows drivers for the radeons always do this (in my experience). It should definitely not be doing this.

My thoughts exactly. June/July is a bit too optimistic imo. I'm guessing the release will be closer to september, but I guess we will see. Still I would wait for Conroe aswell...

Intel just revised that board and started shipping new ones on the 16th. Minor hardware changes were added to let it support the conroe chips. The previous revisions of the board, along with most 975 boards currently out won't work. It's not just a matter of a bios upgrade. Hope you didn't buy the board too early. Also, since online stores aren't going to hand pick you a new one, best to wait for the old ones to be replaced.
