Advice on P150 system

Post by palmem » Tue Jun 06, 2006 6:01 pm

Sorry if this post is a little confusing

I am getting frustrated at trying to silence my current PC, so I have decided to upgrade the case, possibly the motherboard (winy fan)

Hardware (current):
ASUS SLI Premium (the one with no fans)
250gb Seagate 7200.8
X2 3800+
6800GT

Hardware (If I upgrade more than case):
ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe
400gb Seagate 7200.9
X2 4400+ or 4600+ or 4800+ (depends on how much I make this summer)
7900GTX or 7600GT (silent-pipe) (depends on how much I make this summer)

I am planning a P150 build:
Ducted PSU vent from top 2 5.25" bays to PSU (a pass-through PSU)
1x80mm fan in the PSU
1x120mm fan, ducted to a Ninja or Mine (not sure)
1x92mm fan in the lower slot, ducted to the VGA card
VGA will either be a 6800GT w/ Arctic Silencer or a 7900GTX (if I upgrade the system)
If 6800GT, all the heat goes out the back, so the HDD goes in the top slot, suspended
If 7600GT, it needs to cooling (silent-pipe)
If 7900GTX, 1/2 the heat goes back into the case (so would heat the HDD if in the top slot), so the HDD is in the bottom slot, suspended (inside the duct for the VGA)
92mm nexus in the upper HDD bay slot

In case you can't figure what I'm talking about, here's a picture:
http://dabbelt.zapto.org/palmer/keep/20 ... -build.png

In the pic:
Yellow = ducting (made of foam-core board)
Blue = fans
Green = Video cards (top is VGA, bottom is TV tuner)
Purple = HDDs (only use 1 of them)
Red = CPU HS/F
MB is the picture is the M8N, but it's similar enough

My questions are:
Did I get all the sizes for everything right? (Last time I thought I had much more room in my case)
Can I get away without one or both of the 92mm fans?
Will this run cool enough (it has to be able to handle the higher-end setup)?

Palmem --
I note this post has been up awhile with no response. Did you build this system? I'm debating what to replace the stock HSF on a 5200+ on the M2N-SLI in a P150 as well. Thinking about Zalman CNPS 9500 AM2 at the moment.

Won't a Scythe Mine fit?

Oops. Yep. Was poking around on the scythe website and it listed the Mine as discontinued, but apparently this was the SCMN-1000. Newegg show current version is SCMN-1100 which is apparently the AM2 version. Looks to be lighter and cheaper than Zalman's.
