Some info needed on Gigabyte 7900gt

Post by Isy » Wed Aug 23, 2006 6:55 am

Is the Gigabyte 7900GT quiet?
Does anyone know its dba when idle and at load?
Also, Can a Seasonic 430 psu handle this card? I heard the seasonic 430 doesn’t come with the 6pin extension and the gigabyte card doesn’t need a 6pin extension, therefore there should go together without any further wires needed.

Can someone give me some info on this.

If you're talking about a Seasonic S12-430, it should have a six pin graphics connector and it will handle a 7900GT just fine. If you are talking about the Gigabyte 7900GT that comes with a built in VF-700 heatsink then yes, it could be quiet. As long as the card undervolts the fan properly when it is running cool, it should be quiet. When gaming it should get noisier but not intolerably so.

The gigabyte card doesn't come with a 6pin extension. Would I need to convert the seasonic 6pin to the normal molex connection?

Isnt there a 6-pin connector on the top corner of the card, just behing the row of caps?

Looks like 6-pin to me... :?

edit: Fair enough, stromgald- I bow to your superior Googling :)

I think he's talking about this card with the molex connector:

Why can't you just use one of the Molex connectors from the PSU? Unless you are going to use up all the molex connectors from the S12 430W for drives and stuff, you could just use one of those to power the graphics card.

Does anyone know how quiet this card is?
Is it good quality?
Would you recommend it or anything better than it?

Thanks
