Mac Mini [Quiet?]

Post by Chocolinx » Sat Mar 17, 2007 12:04 pm

So does anyone on this forum have a Mac Mini? I really want a SFF computer and I was looking at Mac Mini vs Shuttle X200. I can get a Celeron M X200 for roughly $800 CND or a Mac Mini for slightly more $899 CND.

I just want to know which one is quieter. Only using this computer for word documents and internet mostly, no gaming what-so-ever, leaving that to my main PC.

Hi! I own a MacMini (PPC), and it's almost impossible to hear. Unless being in an absolutely quiet room, from a distance of 30cm or such... it's not possible to hear the systems fan at all. :-)
Of course I tweaked it a little, with the help of a WD-Scorpio40GB, but... even the original Seagate was pretty quiet in the Mini's casing.

Hope that helps. ;-)

I wonder how hot it gets having so much packed into such a small form factor. What temperature range does it operate at?

I have a fairly warm bedroom especially in the summer, I would hate to have the fan ramp up during normal use.

That shuttle must be really overpriced. Usually apple products have quite a high markup.

The MacMini would definatly be worth your 99$ extra. It has a Core Duo (NOT Core 2!, yet) CPU and not some lame Celeron. ;)

And on the IntelMacs you can run pretty much any OS you want. :)

The MacMini is extremely quiet.

Only noises: on boot up, and when using optical unit.

My sister has one and runs great. Quiet good puppy.

Salut.
