New Core 2 Duo - E6320 & E6420
I've got my E6420 on pre-order. Cant wait.
From looking at reviews they overclock just as well if not better than the E6400.
The E6420 has 4mb of cache compared to the 2mb of cache on the E6400. It has a higher multiplier than the e6300/e6320 which means you dont need to run a silly high FSB if you overclock to get good results.
Here's some info on the new chip coming out on the 23rd of April

They've been on sale for the last week in Oz.
If you want real easy overclocking go with the E4*00 series. Your E6420 has an 8x multiplier, the E4300 has a 9x and the E4400 has 10x. You do miss out on 2mb of cache however. Still 9x333 for 3ghz is easy and well within most motherboards capabilities.Mike81 wrote:The E6420 has 4mb of cache compared to the 2mb of cache on the E6400. awd have them in stock, they have been shipped early, mine is arriving with me tomorrow
after looking at many reviews the E6420 is the one to go for, the E4400 has been tested and turned out to be rubbish at overclocking. But as standard compared to the E6320 it did pull past it on most tests apart from those benefitting from the extra cache.
to answer somebodys previous questionm yes the e6320 and e6420 are identical in the way of features, cache, fsb, but the 6420 has a higher multiplier to give it a higher standard speed, and beter chance of overclocking higher without using a silly high FSB.

Thanks for the reply. In the meantime, I have been doing some searching myself. Perhaps this will be interesting to some.
Since I do not intend to overclock, the E4400 appears to be the sweet spot as for as price/performance goes. Also, as far as I understand, 667Mhz RAM in Dual Channel mode will be more than enough - could save some there too not going for 800 Mhz.

For the E4400 you only need DDRII 400mhz if running at stock 1:1, E6300 you need 533mhz for 1:1.sun.moon wrote:Thanks for the reply. In the meantime, I have been doing some searching myself. Perhaps this will be interesting to some.

Still I suggest getting at least 667 and staying to the 1.8v models.
