new system with 8600gt/gts

Post by Pierce » Mon May 07, 2007 4:08 am

Hi I'm planning to get me a new silent computer.

The main purposes are browsing the internet, watching films and some gaming.
I want it to be quiet and fairly cheap (about 650€, 850$)
My plan:

CPU: e4300
Mobo: Abit Fatality F-I90HD
Case: NSK 2400
Ram: 2gb kit (as cheap as possible)
Hdd: 2,5" 120gb Samsung
dvd: any dvd rw
cooling: thermalright si-128 with a 120mm fan
video: passive 8600gt or gts?

Is there a significant improvement of the video power between GT and GTS?
Or should I wait for ATI mid-range which wouldn't be a problem since the mobo has onboard graphics.

Thanks for any help.

Wait a couple of weeks. If the Internet rumors are to be believed, uh, wait until 6:00AM EST May 15th.

I would advise to stay away from notebook HDDs >80GB if you want true inaudibility, for these larger models have multiple platters.
At least I think 80 is the largest single platter - can anyone confirm this?

BOTH!
if ATI brings their new cards to the market, we can expect new cards and dropped prices!

Good to know that the new cards may only be one week away!

I just found out that the SI-128 doesn't fit the NSK with a 120mm fan on top.

Which other heatsink is able to cool my cpu at a low noise level?
