First Post. Wondering about case to PSU...

Post by Crimson_Death216 » Mon May 14, 2007 6:59 pm

I'm pretty new to building computers and I am looking at getting an Antec Performance One P180 ATX Mid Tower and I was wondering about which power supply in your opinion would work best with it. I plan on making this computer have high performance and I am probably going to run an 8800 GTX for my graphics.

The PSU's I was looking at were:
CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 620W Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, CUL, CE, CB, FCC Class B, TUV, CCC, C-tick

Antec Phantom 500 ATX12V 500W Power Supply 100Vac to 240Vac +/- 10% TUV, UL, CUL, CE, CB, FCC

What do you think? Any suggestions would be very welcomed. Any other PSU's to look at would be welocmed as well.

Thanks.

Hi Crimson,
That Corsair is very well regarded, however I would like to suggest a different PSU to consider against instead of the Antec Phantom.
This Seasonic

Of course there are others that will do well also like the NeoHE550 from antec

I'm sure others will offer some good choices too.

Also, sheck the archives here at spcr...there's a wealth of good (and quiet) psu knowledge here

If that $170 for the Corsair didn't matter would that be a good choice and would it be compatible in that case? I read that that case makes the system a lot quieter because of the to different compartments. True? Any other PSU suggestions would be great.

Thanks.

The 650 Seasonic is 144....
I have a NeoHE500 with an 8800GTS 640mb and would't use less, even though the psu calculator says I only need a 400w psu. With your GTX ,I think you need another 35w above the GTS. I myself would think a NeoHE550 to be your minimum psu.
All these psu's are compatible with the P180.... the only time it gets at all tight is if you have an ASUS mb with the 12v ATX power connector all the way at the top above the cpu. But it will still reach. The rest is a piece of cake

Cool, thanks for the help I will decide on which one once I look at some of the other components I'll be running.

Thanks.

You can get by with a 4-500W PSU even with a GTX; if spending less money helps, keep that in mind.

Just don't save cash on a PSU by going ThermalTake or something else cheap.

hey, i recommend buying a kill-a-watt. Often wattage needed is much less than you'd think.
