PSU, Fan and CPU (C2D) HSF advice for P182
Heya, I'm going to move my current workstation into a P182 this summer, and I'm wondering about which PSU, Fans and CPU HSF I should get for decent cooling and reasonably low noise.
Current setup:
C2D E6600 (no OC)
2GB Geil ultra pc6400 ram
Asus 7950GT 512MB
Asus P5W DH Deluxe
5 HDD's (4x Seagate + 1x Samsung)
Hiper Type-R 580W Modular PSU (has to go, its apparently overvolting the +12V rail to hell - measured 13.4V in everest, havent dared testing with a voltmeter yet.)
I'm going to migrate the harddrive setup down to Samsung 2x500GB in raid1 or 3x500GB in raid5, after I'm done copying all my stuff over to the filebox.
Edit: Pics of the current setup...
Current setup, no real airflow path, just an open case.. the table fan and loose HD is gone tho

case fans: yate loon. yate loon is the OEM manufactuer of NEXUS 120mm fans. They are essentially the same fans. The difference is that the nexus is 1000rpm at 12V wheras the yate loon is 1200rpm at 12V. O yea, the other difference is price: the nexus is $20 and the Yate loon is $4!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Believe it!
Heatsink: thermalright ultra 120 extrme. The current king of aircoolers, it will out class any other heatsink including the scythe ninja and the sunbeam tuniq tower 120
PSU: corsair 620hx or 520hx. Unlinke the case fans and heatsink, I do not own a corsair 520hx personally, but I do know that these are considered to be the quietest PSU's on the market.

The Raid part isnt 100% yet, I might not bother as I have more than 2.7TB of storage in raid5 in another box already. But if im gonna run raid5, the intel southbridge can handle a few drives with decent/good performance.
I dont think Yate Loon is available in Norway, but I'll go for Nexus fans, running as many as I can off the mobo with SpeedFan, and the rest with a fan controller
What kind of fan controller should I get, what fits in the P182 with the doors closed?
So then..
Antec P182 from SHG = $170
Corsair HX520W from SHG = $130
Nexus 120mm x 5 from netshop = $24*5 = ~$120 (omg)
Thermalright HR-03 from microplex = $75
Thermalright Ultra-120 from microplex = $85
.. total of $600 delivered.. urk. You can get a computer for that these days
Neither the Nexus fans or the Thermalright HSF is in stock now, so when I'm ordering, I might have to manage with the stock intel HSF + TriCool fans for a while..
EDIT: also gonna put in a Thermalright HR-03 cooler for my Asus 7950GT.. I hate the stock cooler...

you may want to look at the thermalright HR-03 for your video card cooler. It should be roughly the same price, but offer much better performance. Read posts from users here at spcr about the vf-900. Most people will tell you that the vf 900 is noisy. The thermalright hr-03 in some cases has actually been used passively with the 7950gt!
Please don't spend $120 on 5 fans . I would rather buy the yate loons here for $4 each Canadian, a total of $20 and send them to you. $120 is ridiculous for REBRANDED fans. You can probably find yate loon fans on ebay.
Your selections look good!
Keep us posted.

The idea of sending fans from Canada to Norway seems pretty good, do you have paypal?
I'm looking at the HR-03 now, do you think it'd be ok for a passive setup if I mount a 120mm in the rear part of the upper drive bay? I'm not OCing my 7950GT anyway, I just want to get rid of the noisy Asus stock cooler that clogs up in a week

should seriously search some more for those nexus fans. here in .nl they're between 7 and 10 euro.
some shops might even send to .no if you ask them, the shipping charges shouldn't be more using tnt, just checked. (under 10e)
the YLs are harder to find, though I did find somewhere that had them, although they were confusing them with the nexus, so not 100% sure it was the right one.

in a P182 you could easily get away with a rear fan, heatsink fan, and fan for the HDDs...
if you're not overclocking, you could get away with just a fan on the heatsink, a fan on the upper blowhole, and an exhaust fan, the PSU could take care of the lower chambers, and air pressure could take care of the rest.

i know all about insufficient cooling. research the heat produced by a pair of Pentium II Xeons...75C each, couldn't get them to budge lower.
with a ninja + 120mm fan, cooling is done, add an exhaust fan and lower chamber fan to keep PCI cards and such cool, seal off the blowhole, and you've got a cool running case. if you want, put a fan in the blowhole and use it as its purpose intended.
i've finally near silently cooled a server, so boy have i seen it all.
