Logitech Z-560 vs Z-5300e speakers
I currently own a Logitech X-530
with an Auzentech X-Plosion 7.1 soundcard.
I'm thinking of either buying the old Z-560 (4.1) from my friend for
$100 or buying brand new Z-5300e for about $170.
The Z-560 offers more power, but it only has 4 speakers + sub.
So I'm kinda stump on what to get. I mainly use good headphones for
gaming and I watch movies once in a while. I wouldn't classify myself
either a gamer or a movie watcher. I do everything about equally.
Which one do you guys think is a better speaker? Hopefully someone
can give me some personal reviews. I'm leaning toward the Z-560 because
it's more powerful and it's more affordable. But some people tell me
the Z-5300e is more newer and refined, and less muddy bass.
Help please...

Muddy bass is a major problem with all of these cheaper logitech speakers. I can't speak for the more expensive models (150+) but I'm pretty sure you want to look at different companies when you reach that budget.
I use the X530 now and I previously used the Z640. The X530 overall sounds better. Cleaner bass (but not by much) and nicer mids and highs. I actually pretty much donated the Z640. I bought it for 70 dollars 2 or 3 years ago.
I highly suggest a nice pair of headphones to get better quality sound with this budget.

I already have some nice gaming headphones
I want to upgrade my speakers right now.
Yaler, the Z-640s you had and the Z-560s are completely different.
Back in 2004, the Z-560s were retailed at $300ish 400W rms power, they are high end speakers. The 640s were $100 with only 71W rms power.
The Z-560's actually push out more power than the Z-5300, landing between the 5300 and 5500. The 5500 is way out of my budget though.
I guess my real question is:
a)Z5300 - 5.1 set up, 6.5" driver 100W sub + 35W sattelites ($170~)
b)Z560 - 4.1 set up, 8" driver 188W sub + 53W sattelites ($100 used)
I don't know if there's new technology in the Z5300 with refined sound,
so it could be better despite being weaker in power. That's my dilemma.

Well the Z-5500's are Logitech's current flagship speaker set.samuelmorris wrote:All I can really add to this is that there is no problem in bass clarity with the z-5500s, so I have no reason to believe it's true of the other 5000 series, such as the 5300.
So it's bound to be incredibly awesome. I heard it's bass is powerful
enough to rip paint off your walls. I wish I could afford them.
Thanks for the reviews on the Z-5300s. I may think about getting them instead, as long as I can find them for a bit cheaper than $170 (after tax).
I got my Z5500 on sale at Dell for $199. Dells 10days of deal after coming back, they may put these speakers on sale again, you can try to wait and see.AzNightmare wrote:Well the Z-5500's are Logitech's current flagship speaker set.samuelmorris wrote:All I can really add to this is that there is no problem in bass clarity with the z-5500s, so I have no reason to believe it's true of the other 5000 series, such as the 5300.

I am currently trying to get the Z-5300 now.
I'm trying to buy them used, at $135. Lowest I could find so far...
What's the difference between the 5300 and 5300e?
I read some reviews and they said some back hardwiring thing on the sattlelite?? can anyone please confirm. And I don't even know waht
hardwiring means. so can anyone please explain? Thanks

I don't think the z-5300 is even sold anymore.
I used to have the 5300e and the speakers connect to the subwoofer via RCA cables. The cables are permanently attached to the speakers so you can't exchange the cables. I assume that's what "hardwired" is.
And I don't know if this is still going on or maybe it was a holiday thing, but at my Fry's, they were selling 5300e's for 170 with a rebate making it around 130.
