New Low Power File Server

Post by BLG » Sat Apr 12, 2008 9:46 pm

I'm currently under work on a low power file server to back up my emails and work documents. Minimum components and I basically just want to make sure that 250W supply is enough.
Components:
-Random Mobo I have
-AMD XP 2800+
-GeForce2 MX400
-1x 120gb WD Hd (maybe 2)

Then comes the debatable PS. I'm either going to go with a SS-250SFD because SS is a trusted name or should I go with a RaidMaxx 380W which would save me $20 (i'm also on a budget).

Any one with advice there is a rebate on te Raidmaxx that makes it $3 + shipping so the sooner the better.

Go with the Seasonic as it'll consume (a lot) less power for sure. You'll have that 20 bucks back in no time.

250W is plenty power for your config. I tested a similar setup last week and it consumed max 175W.

I am for Palindroman. I think you'd better getting a reputable quiet brand such as Seasonic, Corsair, and Enermax etc. No one could guarantee that Raidmaxx is quiet enough for SPCRers or provide stable power current.

Btw, I am a owner of SS-250SFD. It's appropriate for moderate SPCRers rather than silent extremists due to its low volume but irritating sound characteristics. Though you can swap a good 80mm fan if you were really sensitive to sound characteristics.

what about the earthwatt380 v. the SS-250SFD, the 380 gets ~83% efficiency while the 250SFD only gets ~77%, I'm leaning towards the 380 which I can get for a similar price and I think it would have more future use in it.
