I'm thinking about buy a new rigg. I currently own a Dell 420. Do you think this is a good or bad buy?

Build your own. That thing looks nuts.

The Raptor is incredibly loud for a HDD, plus the whole "test" XP and the no returns statement make me decidedly sceptical.

Love the look of the case though...

That sort of looks like "I want a new computer, so lets see if I can sell my old one to some poor sap for as much as I paid for it 6 months ago"

I'd rather put something together myself. You can pay less and get as much/more. Look at a new rig breakdown:

E8400- 200 [Best gaming processor for the price, much faster than the E6600, I've seen this for 180 shipped]]
Motherboard- 110 [Highly rated Gigabyte motherboard, I've seen this at the egg for 90]
8800GT - 150 [Best card for the money, seen a similiar 9600GT for 130]
2GB memory - 35 [Memory is dirt cheap. Seen 2GB at 20$ before]
Case/PS- 100 [Antec cases with earthwatts PSU, look for sites with MIR]
WD 640AAKS - 115 [As fast as the raptor in tranfers, slightly slower access times. This often has a code that makes it cost 100ish]

= 700$, or if you shop, 600ish. I use this site a lot to shop.

You shouldn't spend it. Pay down your debt and don't be a "slave to the lender".

That's the only responsible post you'll see out of me this week, I hope you all enjoyed it. Maybe I'm just bitter because I didn't get to see mine. The wife had it spend before it arrived.

If my check ever arrives....new set of tires. The prices for this sort of thing will be rising swiftly, along with everything else. I've already got a life-time supply of computers...

Porn.

We paid off some debt, put some aside for Christmas, and are using the rest of yard projects.

Right on! And if you don't have any debt -- shred it and save us all the interest on the national debt...

Ours will replenish the bank account that we paid our taxes from -- it's just a money-go-round.

I will be donating $100 of mine to SPCR, thats for sure.
The rest will probably go to help pay for kids snowboard summer camp.

I paid bills with my $1200 check. With a recession looming overhead, and a possible depression on the horizon, i dont wanna be that poor sap caught with huge credit card debt and possibly loosing my job and being SOL for the next 5-10 years of my life because my credit is worthless now.

Recession has already caused my wife to lose her job, she's been out of work for 6 months now.
