New System parts: Evaluation before purchase

Post by thejamppa » Thu Jun 12, 2008 5:12 am

I am giving my old mainrig system to my brother. Only things I am keeping is RAM, PSU, HDD, Case and fans.

I am getting new Motherboard, CPU, cooler and changing into Integrated graphics. So my system would look like this:

Motherboard: GA M78GM S2H
NB cooling: Thermalright HR-05 IFX
Ram: 2x1Gb Kingston Value 667Mhz + 2 x 512mb Kingston Value 667Mhz
HDD: Samsung HD501LJ 500 GB SataII
VGA Integrated Ati HD 3200
CPU: AMD X2 4850e
CPU cooler Scythe Minja Passive or With 80mm NCB fan at 5v
PSU BeQuiet! Pro 430W with FanSwap ( 80+ )
Case Modded P182 with Scythe Slipstream 800 and 500 rpm's.
800 exhaust and 500 either intake or place upper HDD rack.

GA M78GM S2H will take Minja easily. But is there conflict between Minja and regular HR-05 IFX so I should use lower profile cooler? this because I've heard horror stories of this boards NB temps reaching 90 Degree's C!

My main use for this computer is:

- Watching films and videos
- Make office work
- Internet surf
- Play old games ( more than 5 years old )

And I want to use as little expansion cards as possible. I may use only USB 2.0 card if my Lachesis doesn't work well with Ati SB 700. I am meaning to transfer this system in few years into mAtx system and make it HTPC so this why I am building mATX form system into P182. I will get Blueray station soon. And I want system to take consume as little as possible.

Why don't you see how it works for yourself, before you order the HR-05? Who cares about 90 Degree's anyway, if it's working as it's supposed to?

I just pulled the trigger on my GA-MA78GM-S2H + x2 4850E couple of days ago. I'm keeping my old full sized Ninja and S12-430 psu. I couldn't decide on the case yet, so I'm going to put it back inside my old Nexus Breeze, and give my NSK3400 away with my old rig.

Heh... my plans go to heywire again. X2 4850e is out of stock from my local retailer, whom I usually do business.

He offered me Intel e7200 instead, since getting X2 4850e will come him more expensive than getting e7200 now that GNT has run out 4850e's and 4450e's

Now I have to hold undefinately or go for Intel. Problem is: Where I am going to get low powerd Intel mAtx board?

So if I am "forced" to go with e7200 which does have lot's more uumph than 4850e I gain in CPU power but I kinda feel that I will be in the loosing end when it comes to motherboard...

So what would be good (m)Atx board suitable for HD-videos, blueray decoding and goes nicely with e7200? What chipset would be good? Any board recomendations?

Would Minja be still good choice due push-pins or should I just go for TR's bolt-thru?

Gaeh... I hate when my plans go into heywire...

My build is aimed to reduce the power consumption so onboard video might be nice, which still can run older games decently (which 780G was perfect for). I still might go for some nice P35 board and just use my HD 3450, but that would draw more power than my original plan was...

Thanks, its cheap. You just have saved my day. I counted what e7200 + GIGABYTE GA-G33M-DS2R would cost, sure it would had more horse powers but would be great deal more expensive.

X2 4850e + GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H is around 170 € while
e7200 + GIGABYTE GA-G33M-DS2R is around 220€ including postal feeds.
