Whats the problem??
Hi,
I need some help because clearly something isn't right..
Firstly my system.. Its in a P182 case.. I have 1200RPM Scythe slipstream fans in all locations.. Thinking the problem may be the Ninja cooler I had in it I have just installed an HR01-Plus (which made no difference) and it has a scythe PWM fan on it.. The proc is a C2D E6700 running standard clocking and voltage.. The motherboard is an Asus Striker Extreme..
Thinking I may have set something incorrectly in the BIOS I have set it to defaults..
In default BIOS state my processor is sitting at 59C while IDLE.. When loaded it will hit 70C within about 30 seconds.. This is with the the case fans and the cpu fan all spinning at full speed..
Since I have just changed the cooler it suggests there was nothing wrong with the Ninja I just removed..
If I enable EIST and C1E I can get it down to low 40'sC and with Qfan enabled it will slow the fans to about 800rpm with the proc temp at about 48C..
So is it likely to be a motherboard problem or a CPU problem?
TIA for any advice..

Thermal Interface Material. AS5 is fine (I use it).WipeOut wrote:Not sure what "TIM" is but I think you are referring to thermal grease of some kind.. I am using AS5 which I always use..
Fit an Intel stock cooler and show them the results. Check the paperwork you got for warranty period (don't mention you fitted an aftermarket heatsink). If it is the proc, how would I prove it and do you have any idea what the warranty period is on a proc?
Thanks.. I will give the stock cooler a try and see what the results are..
Any idea what a normal temperature range should be with the stock cooler?
What I also may do is try an E1200 that I have for another PC and see what the results are.. According to the Intel website both have the same TDP so I am guessing they should run similar temperatures..

I haven't used one for a while, but it should run cooler than the temps you're seeing.WipeOut wrote:Thanks.. I will give the stock cooler a try and see what the results are..

Re: Whats the problem??
Umm - what are your ambient temps? Room temp, case temp (put a probe about 4cm from the intake of the CPU HS fan) etc.
Are all your fans blowing in a sensible direction?
What temps are reported in the BIOS? (Is your s/w reporting package duff?)
All basic stuff but for the purposes of elimination ...

That does sound nasty (and beyond all of my dumb questions ). Indeed sounds like an IHS that has poor contact with the core. Go nakedWipeOut wrote:In default BIOS state my processor is sitting at 59C while IDLE.. When loaded it will hit 70C within about 30 seconds.
Room temp is around 26C.. Case temp is around 30C (probe) when all the fans are running full speed.. The motherboard temp sensor (which I assume is the north bridge) is 42C.. The fans are all blowing in the right directions..
Will probably pull it all apart today and see if I can see a reason for it.. Guess its hard to see if the problem is with the IHS..
Whats this about going Naked?? Some new PC silencing porn I don't know about??
