Is my new setup good for fanless?

Post by nimi » Thu Feb 05, 2009 4:41 pm

Hi everyone,

After doing here a lot of research I finally ordered my new silent PC setup.

Before I do anything stupid, could you please tell me if this setup is OK to run without a fan on the CPU?

My setup:
Antec P180 mini
Thermalright U120 extreme
Seasonic S12 II 380W (The fan is pointing upwards. Is this a problem?)

Gigabyte EG31MF-S2
Intel E7300 (not planning to overclock)

4GB GSkill 1000mhz ram
320GB WD

Thanks!
Nimi.

Will you be using the case fan on the P180 mini?

I think so. The fans are active by default right? Any reason to turn them off?

Hi,

You probably will be fine -- try it and check the temperature!

A stock E7300 is only around 20W at full load. My little Coolink BAT1VS runs my E7200 fine passively overclocked to 3000MHz @ 1.088V. The TRUE better outperform a $15 heatsink! (even if the TRUE isn't the best choice for passive cooling.)

Great. Thanks for your help!

Any idea what's a good temperature I should watch out for?

More than 20C over ambient would be very surprising, I think. :D I could almost passively cool a 65W cpu with a small heatsink I had, so it should work fine.
