I have an old morex 55W DC-DC power supply from a via mini-itx system. Would this be enough to run an Intel BOXD945GCLF, 2.5" HD, 1GB ram and a fill size CDROM? This is for a headless server so it won't be too heavily taxed other than occasional CD ripping.
From what I can tell, it looks like it should work, I'm just looking for comments from someone who has experience with that board.
When the heck is Intel gonna ship an atom board with something other than a 945?
55W enough for Atom 230 single core?

My guess is it should work, my only hesitation would be the full size optical, I don't know how much power they use.
*My guess is entirely based off of netbooks. The power adapter for my EeePC 1000ha with 2gb ram, laptop hard drive, 10" lcd and crummy speakers is 36W, which is more than enough to run the Eee and charge it at the same time. As long as there isn't some major power hog that I am missing, 55W should do fine.

Should definitely work.nmuntz wrote:I have an old morex 55W DC-DC power supply from a via mini-itx system. Would this be enough to run an Intel BOXD945GCLF, 2.5" HD, 1GB ram and a fill size CDROM? This is for a headless server so it won't be too heavily taxed other than occasional CD ripping.

They already do, just not as a retail product. If you've got the inclination you can get "Industrial" boards, that use the US15W, for ~$250. You'll get a retail version with something better than 945 if NVIDIA starts selling a retail version of Ion. That may never happen, though.nmuntz wrote:When the heck is Intel gonna ship an atom board with something other than a 945?
