Small server that keeps me up all night..

Post by m0Fo » Mon Jan 04, 2010 8:44 am

Hey guys,

I'm trying to silence my little P4 server that keeps me up all night.

I have a no name PSU that I'm going to replace with a Sirtec 430 or a Rasurbo SilentPower DLP-45.1 450W, that's what I've found, maybe you guys know of some other low price silent PSUs.

The main issue is the CPU Cooler I believe, a stock P4 cooler that I want to change, note that I am going to upgrade this server with a E6/7/8XXX, that means socket 775 so I have to check for a compatible one.

From what I've found:
- Scythe Katana 3
- Scythe Big Shuriken
- Scythe Mini Ninja rev. B
- Scythe Angle rev. B
- Scythe Kabuto
- Scythe Ninja 2 (compatible but I can't find it anywhere in my region)

I'm thinking about buying the Katana 3 and the Sirtec PSU but until then I'm looking forward to your suggestions. :)

Hello!

Welcome to the SPCR!!!

Sirtec is one the no-name makers with Rasurbo. If you cannot get Seasonic, Corsair, Antec, Nexus or Enermax PSU's, Compucase / Hec has good models and Fortron is good choice too.

:( ok I'll try to search for some other PSU, but that was very cheap and I don't really need to invest so much in this server, but I'm considering you suggestion..

Cheap ones are rarely quiet. PSU is one of the components you don't want to cut much corners because poor PSU can frie your motherboard, CPU, VGA card and HDD. Good PSU can deal with power spikes and protect your hardware.

I have a mini with no cpu fan on a P4 2.4 oc 2.66 with a 35$ FSP bottom fan PSU, and one 120 intake fan at front of PC. -very quiet/ very cool.

Does the Scythe Mugen 2 fit that socket? Does your motherboard have bolt through holes?
