Antec Minuet has no standoffs -- danger of shorting?

Post by norman-ramsey » Sat Jan 30, 2010 12:48 pm

I'm building an HTPC in an Antec Minuet case. Although the manual says to use brass standoffs, there are no standoffs in the case, and experiment confirms what I find on the Internet: if I use standard standoffs, the mobo is mounted too high to fit the output panel. The screw holes are however on little "anthills" or "bumps" so they are off the case. But the tops of the hills are fairly broad.

Two questions:
  • * Is there any danger of shorting my motherboard? I'm using a GIGABYTE GA-MA74GM-S2 AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 740G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard.
    * What should I do about the edge of the motherboard where there is a mounting hole but nothing underneath for support? maybe a standoff mounted in nothing and hope for the best?
Sigh. I expect better from Antec.

You will be fine installing the motherboard as is. The bumps are there to take the role of the brass stands, there's no risk of shorting everything.
