hang on verifying DMI pool

Post by Zargon » Sun Apr 04, 2010 6:30 am

system stats:
Purchased:Case:
Antec P180 Mini

HDD's:
Primary: 30GB SSD OCZ Vertex
Secondary:320 GB Seagate Momentus 5400.6

CPU:
AMD Athlon II X240 Regor(undervolted and downclocked)
Xigmatek HDT-S1283 R

Mobo:
GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H

PSU:
electrodacus's PSU

it just hangs at verifying DMI pool after it posts.

I got an error about no system disk a few times(which isnt an error when the HDD's are blank!), but now all I get is this

I've reset to defaults a few times, used the clear cmos jumper

im about to pull the battery on it just in case

Do a Cmos reset, try switching sata ports, what happens then?

I assume this is a fresh build with no OS installed? If so, all I can suggest is the obvious; make sure BIOS is set to boot from CD, and try a different windows CD if you have one, or a linux liveCD. I've had weird problems like that before that ended up being a dodgy CD drive not reading the windows disk properly, so try a different CD drive too if you can.

The times I've had that error, it was the system trying to find a drive that wasn't there:
- either a poor cable connection to a drive (CD, floppy, HDD) or
- boot sequence problem (looking for a floppy and no floppy, etc).

I've had this problem before when i've tried to initially install too many pci cards/ harddrives into the computer. From your list I can't tell if you have extra components, but I generally try to get windows installed with the bare minimum hardware installed (ie use onboard graphics, no wifi cards, no soundcard).

As another posted mentioned (if you havent assembled pc before), you have to set the bios (press delete key or whatever key for your motherboard at startup) to boot from your DVD drive with the windows disc inserted. it should have an option for 'boot order' and you make the cd/dvd drive first.

you will want to run the ssd in ahci mode to get maximum speed..

If you install Windows 7 with your drives IDE mode and switch to AHCI mode later, Windows will not boot correctly.

On a fresh build... this says it better than I:
