P55+i3 540+G.Skill Eco+Go!Green HD5750+CaviarGreen+etc.

Post by DeDeRa » Fri Dec 10, 2010 12:41 am

mobo: Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3R
cpu: Intel i3 540
heatsink: Prolimatech Megahalems
memory: G.SKILL ECO Series 4GB (F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO)
gpu: PowerColor Go! Green AX5750
hdd: WD Caviar Green 2TB WD20EARS
vents: 4x NoiseBlocker Multiframe M12-S1 (intake/exhaust/cpu/gpu)
dvd: Sony Optiarc AD-7260S
psu: Nexus NX-6000 R3 630W
case: CoolerMaster Sileo 500 ???

Should i change the fans with Noctua NF-S12B ULN? I really think Multiframe is the best thing, but you're the experts.
I don't know what case to choose. I read good things about Sileo 500, but i'm not so sure of my decision. What other cases can i choose from? But which have one exhaust and one intake.

On 9th january the new Sandy Bridge platform will be actually out: does it worth to wait? IMO definitely yes.
DeDeRa wrote:gpu: PowerColor Go! Green AX5750

With the recent launch of the fanless PowerColor 6850 I mean it's outdated (while still costly and rare).
DeDeRa wrote:vents: 4x NoiseBlocker Multiframe M12-S1 (intake/exhaust/cpu/gpu)

Do you really need FOUR fans? One exhaust should be enough IMO, with a 65W 5750, while with a 120W 6850 maybe an intake could be worthwhile.
DeDeRa wrote:case: CoolerMaster Sileo 500 ???

AFAIK it comes with its own PSU, doesn't it?

I own that Noctua, IME it isn't any better than my Nexus or Scythe 120mm ones. If you think it could be better than the above quoted NBs, then they aren't any better than current best Nexus and Scythe 120mm fans.

System looks pretty good as it is, here are some minor suggestions:

Sandy Bridge dual cores will come out at the end of February, might still be worth the wait.

The 6850 is definitely faster, but also draws more power. It's the very hottest card with a passive cooler and might need a fan, either in the front of the case, or directly on the card to keep it cool. Even with a fan it's still one of the quietest options.

+1. The Coolermaster's fan are already pretty quiet. Review in Goolenglish. If they are too loud you can always replace them later.
The case does not come with a PSU. 630W seems a little high unless you want to upgrade to a quad core and GTX 580. The system will peak at 170W with the 5750 and 200W with the 6850. A Nexus 430W or even a Seasonic 380W PSU will be fine.

Noctua fans are overpriced, get Scythe instead. One Scythe PWM for the CPU cooler is all you need (and maybe another non-PWM if you go with the 6850).

The only thing to lower noise that comes to mind is suspending the hard drive. Get a No Vibes III or a similar DIY solution.

Sandy Bridge dual cores will be locked and won't allow overclocking :( Which might be important for some people.

if its that important, they can put out the cash for the k versions of the chips with unlocked multipliers.

also: source on that info? i havent heard anything about the bus speeds being locked down on sandy bridge (though admittedly, i havent been paying attention)

That info's pretty much everywhere. It's not so much that Intel's locking bus overclocking. It's just that there's a central clock generator for everything - CPU, SATA, peripherals, etc. Raise your bus speed too high and you'll start experiencing system instability. Also, for a lot of budget builders, one of the reasons for overclocking is so you could buy, say, a $100 CPU and get the performance of a $200 CPU. Having to spend $200 just to be able to overclock kinda defeats that purpose.

There are no K versions of SB dual cores at the moment, you would need to get quad core 2500K for 216$.

mobo: Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3R
cpu: Intel i3 2120

psu: Nexus NX-6000 R3 630W
case: CoolerMaster Sileo 500 ???

The psu stays where she is, because i want it silent and i'll keep it for future upgrade.
About the case...still no idea what to pick. From SPCR review, it seams to be a nice case, but, are there any other good cases?
I could pick UD2H, which is mATX and Antec NSK 3480, but i dunno if Megahalems fits...or if the psu fits the Antec.

The megahelem will fit in the NSK 3480. Look at the galleries, poeple managed to cram a Thermalright HR-02 in there!
With one 3.5" hard drive and one optical drive, you're out of room for future upgrades with the NSK 3480. I'd go with something a little bigger. The Sileo is a good choice, if you don't mind mini ATX look at the Antec Mini P180. If you want bigger maybe the Antec p183 or the Define R3.

Here's another idea: Your new configuration could be powered from a Pico PSU 150W and fit into a Lian Li Q11. :D
Obviously you'd need an ITX board for that. [edit]Like this (embedded video).[/edit]
