Hey all,

i have a chance of getting a cheap p180

should i get it for my setup/will my stuff fit ?

im also planning on getting a scythe mugen 2 , the high pitch whine of the stock amd cooler is getting annoying.
if you can recommend a more fitting unit for my setup go right ahead

everything else is stock, including the case :P

Probably fine. The only thing I'd look into is the length of the video card/cooler.

You might also want to pick up two quality 120mm fans (for intake/exhaust in the upper chamber) and maybe an intake fan filter.

Video card lenght is not a problem at all in the P18x, just remove the 2x3.5" drive bay in the middle (one screw).

Other than that, +1 on previous poster on fans, and spend some time wiring up the case properly, remove both side panels to get at the back, thats the main secret for wiring the P18x neatly.

If you remove the middle hard drive bay, doesn't that remove the nice built-in HDD suspension system?

You might find that this PSU is pretty loud after you get rid of the rest of the main noise offenders.

I found a review at Anandtech that suggests that the fan speed at idle is 1,250rpm, which I personally would find quite loud (even though the review suggests it is reasonably quiet). You might want to look into doing a fan swap or a new quieter PSU.

hmm from the review:
The cables on the power supply are not particularly long and will certainly cause trouble in many larger cases. Midsize towers should not have any difficulties, though, as cable lengths of up to 70cm should be sufficient
its got me worried that the cables might be too short for the p180

if thats the original p180, cut holes through to the back panel for cables, then tuck the unused cables behind the tray, and ofcourse run the 24pin + 8pin behind the tray aswell

I'd go for the slipstream 1200/1300rpm and run the undervolted, but thats more of a personal preference, the nexus fans will work perfectly aswell
