Ram problmes on 939 board. Please help.

Post by Takhisos » Thu Oct 27, 2005 12:27 am

Hi guys,

I've got a ABIT AV8-3rd Eye and i'm trying to get some more Ram in it.

Currently I have 2x512mb CL2.5 3200 moduals in, and working.

I also have one of these that I bought the other day, not working - Corsair (VS512MB400) 512MB, DDR400 / PC3200, non-ECC, 184 DIMM, unbuffered, CL2.5, 32Mx8 DRAMs, Lifetime Warranty

Now, this wouldn't work, I just get beeps at post, damn, I decided to check the manual and it has a page of RAM setup, I wondered if someone could take a look at and tell me what I need to do to get more Ram working.

I think I just need to buy another of the the Corsairs above.. but it mentions double and single rank ram... I don't understand..

I've uploaded the manual page below which hopefully will help you, as it doesnt help me :(

Thanks very very much if you can help,

Yours,
Rob.

Since your mobo'sgot the VIA chipset, perhaps you'd have better luck asking at the ABITdiscussion at the ViaArena forum...

Just pointing you in that direction as it might be a mobo related problem...or you could just have a bad stick of ram. For the latter, did you try removing the other 2 sticks and just booting with the new stick in slot 0?

Ah no I didn't try that, good idea...

Surely someone must know! No is helping on the VIA forum either... Hmmm

I'll see if its a bad stick, and then we can go from there I guess.

Its the abit board it despises all brands of ram. It will not run stable if only half the dimm slots are full. Both 0 and 1 or 2 and 3 need to be full for it to not error code so you either need to leave the one stick you have out or go and buy another like you posted. Also if you still have problems with the new stick added you might have to relax the timing to cas 3. Good luck I feel for ya I have the same board and getting the ram to be stable and work with sata was fun just had to swap bios' a dozen times or so.

The Abit forums are full of releated av8 issues http://forum.abit-usa.com/forumdisplay. ... fd2f4&f=49
