NB temp on nForce4 mobo

Post by snowman59 » Fri Dec 02, 2005 11:19 am

I was wondering what the range of temperatures people are reporting on the NB using both passive and active cooling. In particular with a MSI K8N Neo4 platinum.

I previsouly had it overclocked to 2.6Ghz (237x11) with Prime95 stable for 12+ hours on both the 11x and 5x multi. I have since made some case mods including cutting out the hex fan grills and disconnecting the HDD cage from the chassis. After those mods my NB temps were at 39ºC according to speedfan and dropped to only 37º after returning my system to stock. This is down from a high of 35º before the mods with an overclock.

Here's a rundown of the NB temp ranges:
Before:
- Overclock: 28 idle; 35 load;

After:
- Overclock: 29 idle; 39 load
- Stock: 28 idle; 37 load

Are these temps within the normal range for the nForce4 NB?

thanks in advance!

Those temperatures are very good. You have absolutely no reason to worry.

Those are probably mobo ambient temps taken with a sensor on the other side of the board. They're way too cool for an OC'd NF4

i have your motherboard, i dont know of any temps for the northbridge. your probably looking at the case temps. i'm not sure where they put the sensor to get that reading, it may be no where near the NB controller.

i took the stock cooler off my NB and replaced it with a passive zalman NB heatsink. i dont have any stability issues. i used the artic silver adhesive compound and basically just "glue"d it to the northbridge.

My Gigabyte board has a passive heatsink on the nForce 4 chip, and it runs very hot at 69C degrees constantly. System seems Ok, so I'm not bothered by it being high.

my nforce4 (ECS Kn1) runs at 48c and 55c while gaming with the stock HS and no fan. I know these things run hot but 55c scares me and I want it to be cooler. I'm toying with the Idea of modding a zalman HP cooler or using a ZALMAN ZM17-CU and bending the fins up.

My NB would be hotter than 55C... they're rated for hotter temps than CPUs. I have a zalman passive on mine with a 120mm at 5v kicking around in the middle of the case... perfectly stable at 10x245...
