Post by elec999 » Tue Dec 06, 2005 8:47 pm

Amd 64 3000+
2x256 ocz 2-3-2-5 ddr400
Dfi 250gb
Maxtor 40gig 7200rpm ide drive
Geforce 2 mx
Windows xp x64
Heres my problem. I can set my cpu to 800mhz via clockgen. 4x200 or 5x200 for 1gig, at 0.850v. But if try it try to set my computer to boot at 4x200 or 5x200 it will not boot up. I tried playing around with the bios but no luck. Can anyone advice me please.

Why don't you let Cool and Quiet do the job ? By default it will boot at 2 Ghz but once in Windows with everything loaded, My X2 3800+ is set to 5x200 with 1.1V I think.

It probably has to do with start voltages. I know my athlon XP won't post below 1.3V, but I can set it lower once the computer has started. My guess is that you'll have to settle for a slightly higher voltage if you want it to boot in this state.

I do not know about AMD 64 but the Athlon XP-M has a certain limit in voltage at which it will start up. Mine starts hot at around 1.2 volts and cold at 1.3 volts. Once it is started, I can bring the voltage down to 1.1 volts and it works perfectly fine. So you may have the same situation. You have to switch on at a higheer voltage and then step it down.

When we discussed it here before, it was compared to a car engine: you have to warm it up before it runs well :)
