Any word on Yonah MB?
Well, it looks like the processor will be out in Febuary. Any word on boards yet?
Re: Any word on Yonah MB?
Too soon, especially since most if not all of the intial Yonahs batch will go to laptop builders. I'm guessing a desktop MB would appear in Q2 2006.Schlotkins wrote:Well, it looks like the processor will be out in Febuary. Any word on boards yet?
Gigabyte was showing one off:
http://vr-zone.com/?i=3051&s=3Next we have a Pentium M T2600 dual core Yonah CPU with a 945GT motherboard on demo. It is certainly a pretty fast gaming machine with a 7800GTX card running inside and the 3DMark05 score is around 7.8K which is comparable to a AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 setup.
SuperMicro has unveiled two server motherboards that support up to two Yonah's at the same time: the X6DLP-4G2 and the X6DLP-EG2. Both motherboards are similar, but the first one comes with Ultra 320 SCSI support. Here's a bad picture of one of these boards:
More details on these boards, including benchmarks, can be found on Akiba PC Hotline. Here's an english translation of the japanese page.

I sort of doubt there are going to be much in the way of Yonah motherboards for the desktop market. Conroe and Merom are coming down the pipe (probably around May to July 06) soon after Yonah's launch. Those are desktop and workstation oriented parts that are based off of Pentium M technology. They are probably going to run hotter but also probably significantly faster than Yonah. These are going to be supported by desktop boards. It'll be a lot like the current Pentium M/P4 situation where PMs are expensive, cool, and moderate performance, while P4s are much cheaper. The major difference being that Conroe and Merom should be cooler than even Athlon 64s while delivering equivalent performance.

I've been searching for some info on Yonah-boards and here are my findings. Aopen, Gigabyte and Asus are all developing boards with the 945GT Chipset.
"Asus N4L-VM DH" - Images from CES:

"Gigabyte GA-8I945GTMF-RH-Y" This board is even tested at this page together with a Yonah T2600 2.1Ghz : (Translated with Babelfish) http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfis ... 90_9.shtml
"Aopen i945GTm-HIL" (Translated with Babelfish)http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfis ... tmhil.html
Looks promising, hopefully it wont take too long before they are available.

A few words of advice. The first version of any type of motherboard are not totally stable, in general. This can be doubly true when paired with a new socket type, and/or chipset. Intially, there is no performance increase between using DDR & DDR2 memory. Faster DDR2 memory is in the pipeline, but not sure then it will be out.Schlotkins wrote:I guess I keep flipping before a Yonah and a X2... I guess the power difference isn't that much. I will probably try and hold out for at least the M2 version of the X2 to come out.
If you really want to go for Socket AM2, I would suggest waiting about 3 months after it's release. Hopefully, by then there will revised motherboards to correct bugs and increase stability, if any.

Tom's Hardware have posted a review of Aopen's i975Xa-YDG board:

2006 seems a good year for silent, cooler...and powerful computing. Also good news from Intel/IDF Spring roadmap, Anandtech and other sites have reviews.
