Can't seem to find the USB cable for my camera, lol. But don't worry, it'll show up eventually. Will be sure to post the pictures then. :)

Shucks! I delayed my order for one of these things as I wanted to see what it looks like on a nforce4 board (the positioning, etc)....

Hurry!! :)

Well I'm using a Via board, so you'll have to wait for somebody else to post pics of their HR-05 on NF4. :P

Adjustment

Post by Firetech » Thu Mar 23, 2006 8:34 pm

The website mentions position adjustment.
Is there any horizontal adjustability in the unit (can it be cranked over nearer the MB's surface) or can it only be rotated around it's vertical axis (to face rear or top of case)?

It can be rotated clockwise or counterclockwise to some extent (obviously the heatpipe will eventually bump into the mounting bracket if you rotate it too much). Can't be adjusted up/down/left/right.

Is there any airflow through the HR-05 or are you relying on convection with that configuration?

Just case airflow/convection, there is no fan blowing directly onto the heatsink. :)

Just installed the hr-05 on my dfi ultra-d. Put my video card in the second slot and install was a breeze. I have it parallel to the video card. Temps are at 27-30 load. I had a passive zalman before that and that yielded 45C loads. Yet another great heatsink from Thermalright.

Good to hear. Are you running it passive or with a fan? Or can it receive any indirect airflow from the video card heatsink?

How many fans you have in your case? I finally installed the HR-05 (passive at 45 / degree) in the DFI UT Ultra-D and my temp are at 31/34c load. The stock DFI fan/heatsink were 43/48c load where the fan was around 4100/5200 rpm.

I was taking another look at the HR-05, and saw that Thermalright has updated their web page to include a pretty comprehensive motherboard compatibility list.

It is here: http://www.thermalright.com/a_page/main ... d_hr05.htm

The list includes the ASUS P5LD2, but I'm skeptical: that MB uses four metal loops to fasten the HS using a couple of large guage wire clips.

All three reviews pointed at by the Thermalright site show motherboards with two diagonal push-pin holes near the north bridge.

Clips & lugs

Post by Firetech » Tue Apr 18, 2006 11:22 am

If you look for HR-05 in the Installation and also Downloads/PDF sections there are two types of mounting shown: Push Pin & Clip.
I think the Download PDF shows the mounting you are referring to and uses only two of the four MB lugs.
Hope this helps :)

EDIT: Link sorted

That link went to the push pin pdf, but you are right, the clip style pdf seems to match the P5LD2 style HS mount.

But I already have ducts installed that cool the NB very well, so this is mostly a matter of curiousity.

Thanks for the pointer.
