Sempron 3100+ question

Post by coconut » Fri Jun 09, 2006 2:36 am

I ordered a Sempron 3100+ SDA3100BXBOX from scan.co.uk but instead received a SDA3100AIO3BX (LBBWE 0604RPBW). The box makes no mention of Cool 'n' Quiet Technology. I'm not a little pissed off. :x

Could someone please enlighten me as to the differences between SDA3100AIO3BX and SDA3100BXBOX?

None, from the number you got the right part. But as far as I know the box should say Cool'n'Quiet on it.

QuietOC, yes you're right. In the meantime, I've been googling like mad, and from what I gather the SDA3100AIO3BX is the OEM version of the SDA3100BXBOX. I surmise that what they have done is put the OEM version in a box with heatsink and fan and are now selling them as PIBs.

It's revision E6, right? From the code 0604, I understand that the date of production is the 4th week of 2006. However, nowhere on the box does it say anything about Cool n Quiet. Can I take it that it supports Cool n Quiet regardless?

Also, there's a sticker on the box with a code and a message which says "warranty void if removed". I suppose because the CPU does not have the BXBOX code on it (to mark it as 'retail') they have put this sticker on the box in lieu of warranty.

Now, I also have an Athlon 4000+ (ADA4000DAA5BN) which I received in error when trying to order a Sempron 3100+. (I was invoiced for the Sempron but got the Athlon instead). I understand this is also an OEM version which again seems to have been repackaged as a retail product. However, on this one there is no sticker on the box like the one on the Sempron. Is this likely to raise warranty issues? This worries me in case I decide to sell the Athlon on ebay (it's still unopened).

As it stands, I've paid 2x the price of a Sempron 3100+ and have ended up with one Sempron 3100+ (which I intend to install on the Pundit P2-AE2) and an Athlon 4000+ which I could either return for a refund or sell on ebay.

I think everything is fine. Certainly the way I understand it. SDA3100BXBOX is the part number of the whole package (including literally the box). Inside you should find a SDA3100AIO3BX processor, a hsf, some thermal paste, uncle Tom Cobley and all (each with their own part number).

Yes it is E6 - the BX part of the (processor) part number corresponds to that. And yes, E6 Sempron 3000+ and greater are all CnQ - that is in the product spec somewhere.

All S754 Semprons 3000+ and above are CnQ capable--not just the E6 revision. :)

Good luck with your processor.

BTW: I decided to go back to running my Sempron 3100+, but now I can't get it to boot at 300MHz HT speed. I'll have to clean off the Ninja and reinstall it again. :P

QuietOC, dukla2000, thank you both for setting me straight on the 3100+
