Anyone else waiting for G965 MATX for their HTPC?

Post by KuniD » Mon Aug 21, 2006 5:59 am

After deciding to go with the Antec Fusion for my HTPC I've been waiting for G965 MATX boards for a Core 2 Duo setup. Anyone heard anything about when we might start seeing them in stock? I've seen a few on webshops up for pre-order, but no dates given :(

Personally I'm looking at the Intel DG965OT; ViiV, Dolby Home Theatre, GMA X3000 onboard graphics which are suppose to be Vista ready (DirectX 10 maybe?). Should do until G80/R600 arrive.

edit//

Not much use to me (in the UK) but Intel's "where to buy" page is reporting the DG965OT in stock in the US

G965 boards have just showed up in Japan, so I guess they will be here in a month. Asus have also listed their new mobos on their site.

It looks like they will show up pretty soon anyway.

Microsoft have indicated that Intel's GMA950 will support the Aero Glass interface in Vista so the more powerful GMA X3000 graphics in the G965 will certainly support this also.

Early reports have indicated that the 965 series of chipsets runs pretty hot however. It will be interesting to see what level the graphics performance of the GMA X3000 reaches and whether the "Clear Video" feature is of much use.

G965 board on newegg.com

Post by Listener » Tue Aug 22, 2006 5:42 pm

Newegg now shows one of the DG965 boards

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813121048

This is the Rogers version:

full ATX
6 channel audio
no SPDIF output
$ 125
The WH version I want has

full ATX
8 channel audio
SPDIF outout

I expect that the WH version will appear soon at about $ 140. (Both boards have been listed on MicroCenter.com with a 7-21 day shipping time for several days. The price for the WH version has been $ 140.)

The D946GZIS board is a less attractive possibility that has been available for at least a few days.

If you are going to upgrade soon anyway, then a G945 mobo might do maybe?

I thought about getting a G945 board, but with G965 so close, I thought I'd wait for it as it also had other chipset improvements I wanted.

I found the DG965OT in stock :)

Ordered one, should have it middle of next week. Also ordered the rest of my parts from eBuyer;

Antec Fusion
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
Zalman CNPS9500
Corsair XMS2-6400 (2x512)
Western Digital WD5000KS

Just need to order a coupla Nexus 120's and I'm set. Hopefully set up by this time next week.

I have been looking at that board, too. I guess they are available here September 8. I wonder why one site would state three year warranty and other sites state one year? Does anyone know if this board does the HDMI 1.3 thing? It sounds like it might be the perfect board for me as i don't game, but might want to try HDTV.

Have you received that mobo yet? I was curious how well the Corsair memory was working on that board? I'm planning on purchasing the same board and noticed that Intel specs 1.8v RAM only; the Corsair XMS2-6400 is from 1.9v to 2.1v.

stll waiting for mATX with eSATA. This is essential for me.

This one from Asus seems to have it all, but haven't seen any in US yet.

What's wrong with using an eSATA bracket :?:

Just watch out to buy the right type: A real eSATA type "I" connector or an external SATA type "L" connector.

nothing wrong with eSATA brackets, just prefer to use what's onboard and what will be onboard for most modern day mobos. 10-15$ for the bracket isn't worth it IMO, when these will be all built-in like USB ports on the next-gen mobos.

I ordered the DG965OT today along with an Antec NSK2400. It looks like a Thermalright XP-120 will fit ... can anyone confirm?

On the Bleeding Edge

Post by Listener » Tue Sep 26, 2006 5:27 pm

I got an Intel DG965WH motherboard and a 6300 Core 2 Duo chip about 8 days ago and having been putting it together since then.

My PC mostly works now but there are still problems:

- the internal PATA DVD drive doesn't recognize data or audio CDs at all now. Fortunately, it lasted long enough for me to install Windows and drivers.

- I'm also having trouble with a USB DVD drive. The PC hangs early in the boot process if the USB DVD drive is connected. The CD ripper s/w crashes when I'm ripping in secure mode from this drive if both cores are working.

- The drivers for the graphics chip didn't install properly. I see an occasional display screw up.

The PATA support is on a 3rd party chip separate from the ICH8R Southbridge chip - not on the beaten path. The ICH8R has the USB support and its new too.

On the bleeding edge, you bleed.

The system is pretty cool and quiet though.

I am waiting too. The only thing thats stopping me from going out to get the P5B-VM is that it lacks PCI locks and does not support any memory which needs voltage higher than 1.95.

No PCI lock means bad overclocking! Yes, I'm one of those people who try to overclock and get a quiet system. :)

Are you still having trouble with this board? Can you run accelerated 3D on the graphics core yet? Most of all, does the BIOS allow Vcore (really, any) adjustment? I'm interesting in getting a G965 board (spec. G965), but kind of afraid of the driver immaturity thing, and I really need Vcore adjustment.

I've made progress. I've installed the drivers from the disk that came with the board and then the updates on Intel's website. No display screwups since then. The boot process still hangs if I have a USB DVD drive plugged in. The internal DVD drive doesn't read data or audio disks.

I have no info on setting VCore. I didn't see anything in the BIOS but there may be an advanced mode for seting more things.

I'm using the Intel heatsink/fan that came with the processor in an Antec Solo case. Quiet and cool.

I have no info on 3D performance. I'm using a 19" LCD at 1280 by 1024 and screen updates seem smooth and quick.

Not yet ready for Vista

Post by marmelade5 » Thu Sep 28, 2006 7:59 am

I'm a noob to this site (I did a search for the DG965OT and ended up here). I just finished installing Windows Vista RC1 version on the DG965OT with an E6300 Core 2. All of the drivers were picked up by Vista except for A PCI Simple Communications Controller and an Unknown device. The drivers CD that came with the Mobo does not work (Obviously it's meant for XP). Does anyone know where to find these drivers? When will they be accessible? The Intel site is still not showing anything available for Vista yet (to my knowledge). Just thought I'd pass along the info.
