Looking for 35watt Athlon

Post by oldgeek » Tue Aug 22, 2006 3:03 am

Has anyone found the Athlon AM2 socket,P\N ADD3500CNBOX,35Watt listed in AMDcompare .
There are also 4 Semprons listed at same wattage.
Have checked online, a lot of suppliers, not listed.
Am presently running an ADA3500CNBOX,62watt,on my Asus M2N-E m.b. in my P180.
Running at 20c in ambient temp.of at least 24c.Arctic Cooling Pro at 1150rpm.
Would love to try one of the 35watt .
Would be able to make ice in my P180 refrigerator,Ha! Ha! :D :D

I wish. I'd been thinking about putting together a 3800 X2 35W HTPC using the MSI K9NGM2-FID, but I can't find any of the 35W parts, not even the Semprons, anywhere. I would just go with one of the 65W parts and undervolt, but supposedly the one thing the MSI mATX mobo doesn't do is allow manual vcore adjustments. But given that even the 65W parts are hard to find, I'm thinking that 35W is a lost cause for at least a few more months.

Have you considered using RMClock or similar? It takes advantage of the CnQ ability to lower voltage.... used it on my laptop, works a treat. Get 100% load voltage of 1.1v now, instead of 1.35v. Idle is 1.05 or something....
CPU is 10C cooler under load, and the HDD temp reduced as well from the generally lower heat around.
Windows-based, but it saves your settings, so once you hit windows it goes to the low voltage.

35watt

Post by oldgeek » Tue Aug 22, 2006 5:56 am

Hi! guys
I just found out thru a contact ,that the AMD Athlon and Sempron 35 watt processors are for Laptops only.
Also that the present socket AM2 processors operating at 62watt are very low temp.will not get lower unless underclocked.
Thanks for your interest and response.

Wrong.
If you want the correct specs about AMD's processors, check their site.
Here are some reviews, using regular desktop AM2 motherboards.

Lostcircuits

Xbitlabs

AMDZone

Hothardware

Here's a thread about the CPU.

Well it all depends on where you live, of course. They're available here in Europe.

The 35 W 3500+ is also available here in Europe, a total of 8 EE models. I don't understand why they won't show up in the USA and Canada.

Because people want to read it.

It also depends on where the review site is based, they could be somewhere in the world where those CPU's are available.
Even if that's not the case, we've seen reviews about upcoming, not yet released products before.

They'll of course run cooler if undervolted, just like any other CPU.

Will be interesting to see if AMD has carried over the Vcore lock from the E-stepping S939 and S754 cores.

Ya, but it's already 3 months after their formal product annoucement in late May. I was going to get a EE Sempron right at the annoucement but no one here in California has SKU for it even now. 3 freaking months is a long long time and I settled with A64 3200. :(

Now who's going to pay a price premium for the 3800+ X2 EE when they can just wait another 3-4 month for 65nm 3800+ X2 (TDP of 65W) that can run even cooler and overclock better.

The availability of these EE/EE SFF processors are stuck between a rock and a very hard place.

They used to be more hard to find here too, but at least they existed. The EE models first showed up in the end of June, six weeks after launch.

Well, I still couldn't find anything at or near Sunnyvale, California (AMD's HQ), except one A64X2 3800+ EE @ $198 when the regular costs $150.

Donno, but at this rate I would rather wait for 65nm A64X2 before sinking more money on AM2. Or 90nm A64X2 3600+. Or perhaps T4300 Conroe.

Personally I wouldn't buy the 35 W X2 model, seems like joke compared to the 65 W X2 4800+ which is cheaper.

The E4300 could be a winner, and with only 1200 MHz in in EIST it's maybe using less power in idle. Even though both you and me would OC it to 2400 Mhz and beyond...

I'm willing to wait for a better CPU. In fact, I'm willing to wait an eternity, just to get the best CPU ever! :D
