P5B Temperature Sensors

Post by Chocolinx » Wed Oct 25, 2006 2:52 pm

In BIOS it's called Motherboard Temp. In SpeedFan 4.31 it's called System Temp. As of now whether the CPU be Idle or on Load, the temp is 41ºC. Isn't this considered a little high for a system temp?

Are Motherboard and System temps suppose to be separate as well? I was told somewhere that they are actually totally separate items. Also I have this temp in SpeedFan that reads 127ºC. This seems to really concern me since it's a temp off the charts, although I don't know if it's a ghost reading or not. Because everything in my case is touchable.

The 127 temp is almost certainly a ghost temp. As for the one labeled system temp, I believe that's the southbridge, though it could be the northbridge.

Forget the labels - they're both wrong. For your M/B that's the southbridge/ICH temperture.

~41C is perfectly normal for your board.

 Sounds good. Gives me peace at mind :D

Right now all I have is 2 Nexus 120mm Fans spinning at 700RPM.

The one on my Ninja use to be at 1000RPM here are the temps using dual Prime95:

1000RPM
CPU Idle: 40C
CPU Load: 50C
SB: 40C

700RPM
CPU Idle: 45C
CPU Load: 56C
SB: 41C

Are you using TAT or Core Temp for those CPU readings? If so, that's really good temps! Any overclocking?

I'm using TAT to check my temps right now. I use to use Temp Core but for some reason it keeps my HDD seeking and I couldn't sleep with that on. It drove me MAD one night.

I do have some overclocking very slight though not as huge as some other people going way over 3.4 or something.

E6400 2.13Ghz @ 2.80Ghz
VCore 1.3125V
OCZ DDR667 @ DDR700 (1:1)
5-5-5-13 Timing

Everything else was left auto. System is stable even after 48 hours of Prime95. I stopped after that because I was worried about the electric bill :? Personally I thought my CPU temps seemed a bit high for using a Ninja Scythe. People have said that they have 35C or even 33C when using a Infinity and that's lesser of a heatsink too. At 1.275V I can get 38C Idle though. But still a tad bit high. I was thinking my IHS isn't completely flat or something but I'm not about to lap my CPU anytime soon.

don't put too much stock in the reported temps of others. Differences in ambient temps alone can make up the difference.
