Xeon Quad Core on socket 775 seems more efficient than C2Q.

All about them.

I've been laughing at the Kenty's power consumption. Maybe I was wrong?

The chip isn't on phase change but is water cooled. So no sub zero temps.

Shens!

It's probably fake, or the cpu-z isn't reading the correct voltage. Anandtech got their QX6700 to run 3.2Ghz at stock voltage 1.35v and 3.46ghz at 1.385v. Xbitlabs got their QX6700 to run at 3.5Ghz at 1.5v.

I really don't trust those pictures.

edit:
yeah, the cpu-z is giving incorrect readings. The link had the following numbers:
3.6GHz (400x9) / DDR-1000 (4:5)
BIOS VID: 1.575v
Idle Vcore: 1.53v
Full load Vcore: 1.46v
Temperatures:
Ambient: 23C
Idle: 40C
Full load (4xPrime95): 78C

Still those temps are pretty high imo. They are probably done on high perf water cooling on open air and high speed fan(s).

OP: Rename the topic, it's misleading. The vcore isn't correct in the cpu-z and the 4ghz wasn't stable.

Intel uses the newer B3 revision for these CPU's, while the current C2D's are revision B2. The new revision is supposed to use less power AFAIK.

From what I have been reading, Intel lowered the operating voltages on their Quad Core Xeons in comparison to their Quad Core 2 processors, so the 1.150 voltage is probably accurate. The new revision probably explains how it can operate at such a high clock speed at such a low voltage.

4Ghz at 1.15v? No way...

I was referring to the stock clocks, although I do not find the Xeon 3220 operating at 4GHz frequency with a 1.15 voltage hard to believe, as Intel has dramatically improved the Core 2 Duo chips with each revision and Freecableguy has such a reputation at XtremeSystems.org that I find it hard to believe that he would photoshop a screenshot.

Edit: The first edit was for a spelling correction; the second was to add this note.

Cpu-z sometimes doesn't show the right Vcore, if you read the whole thread you will see that it's higher Vcore.

(I also jumped the gun) :)

Just as an FYI freecableguy is very well known at xtremesystems. Dunno how he gets hardware but he gets a lot of stuff before it comes out. Has many threads at XS with reviews of stuff.
