Help with older CPU heatsink choice

Post by cipher7 » Sat Feb 17, 2007 3:26 pm

I have an older system which I'm finally getting around to silencing and the last item I need to silence is my P3 1.2Ghz Tualatin. I'm looking to remove the stock heatsink/fan and replace it with a fanless heatsink, using indirect airflow via a quiet case fan.

I can't find any SLK-800, SLK-900 heatsinks but I've found the following three affordable heatsinks and was wondering which one would be the best for this CPU:

Zalman CNPS6000-AlCu

Zalman CNPS6000-Cu

Thermalright SLK-700

Thanks in advance

Moved this to CPU Cooling. Thanks.

The 6000Cu is a penny cheaper ;)

Dunno about the non-Zalman one...but the 92mm Zalman fan with the inline resistor is pretty quiet. And of course you could screw on a quieter fan of larger size even. Rather than being limited to 74mm TMD or <70mm conventional fans.

Hello,

I could be wrong, but wouldn't a Socket A HS that uses the three clips be compatible? I don't think the 6000 series Zalmans were particularly effective. I think a 80mm Socket A would be better:
