I have the same mobo. The onboard audio is noisy. All you can do is disable it and install a PCI sound card.

ah so i'm not going crazy. but then why is it coming through my speakers?

one more newb question. i installed a new front bezel from antec (old one broke). i had to reinstall all of the little cables into the mobo. one cable is part "hd audio" and "ac 97". i stuck the ac 97 right into the mobo:
right under the 5.1 surround port that says foxconn. it's got two blue things (safety? i removed them, obviously) on it.

whenever i unplug this, i can still get sound, but i lose sound in flash. everything worked flawlessly before, and i didn't need this connector before. any idea why?

Sorry, I have no idea. The ac97 codec is very noisy, and you'll find lots of info about this if you google. Electrical interference from the rest of the mobo. I use a Chaintech av710 ($25 PCI card) and get clean sound. It happens with most of the onboard audio outputs. Good enough for games, bad for music.
