I'm building a low power file server, and thought about this motherboard

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813186100

I want to use the 3600 brisbane CPU.

This motherboard is cheap, and does not use the nvidia video cards that are power hungry.

I will of course return this motherboard if CrystalCPUID won't be able to change frequence/voltage, but apart from this, do you see anything objectionable with this mobo ?

I don't see other problem, except it has only two Sata ports and two ide ports. I'd rather take one with 4 Sata's and one Ide.

Thanks for your reply!.

Yes I saw the lack of abundant SATA connections. Still, my goal is to create the least power hungry server, so I really don't want to connect more than one laptop hard drive.

The system that I'm building consists of:
1. This motherboard.
2. 3600 X2 Birsbane.
3. picoPSU power supply.
4. one laptop hard drive.
5. one gigabit lan pci card (need two lan connections).

Using CrystalCPUID, my goal is to have an idle power consumption of ~15W. With the right mobo I'm sure it's possible, I just hope it's the right mobo.

I hope I will succeed.

The onboard ethernet is not gigabit. Is that a problem?

Yes, I know, it will go to my internet router which is not gigabit either.

Boards with the fairly new AMD 690 are pretty low power-with a somewhat better onboard video...however...you are planning a pretty limited role and this is a low watts-heat-cost mobo. You might even consider going Sempron with the 3200 which is a Cool+Quiet chip..less watts than any X2 and less $

Hmm who knows what the power consumption is like on Via boards? I've despised them for so long... anyway my tests show GF7025 uses less power than 690G.

What and how many users is it going to serve?

VIA knows how to create low power consuming products, I hope they used this knowledge for this mobo too.

Just me.

What is the diff in watts between the 3600 brisnbane and 3200 sempron, when downclocked/votaged, something significant ?
