which p35 board?
i plan to build a replica (more or less) of the spcr system1 computer (antec solo) but i was curious if its better to use one of the more current p35 boards.
this will be a DAW (music production machine)
which is the current spcr-favourite p35 board that will fit a scythe ninja revb?

I just built a 'system 1' replica with the following components:
* Gigabyte P35 DS3P version 1.0
* Intel e2180 (run at 2.66 GHz by changing FSB speed)
* 2GB Crucial ballistix DDR2 800
* Fanless Ninja-Scythe Rev B (using screws and backplate... to be on safe side)
* Fanless Gigabyte 8600GT
(Antec Solo, Seasonic S12, Acousti pack deluxe, 120mm noctura fan, 2x WD 5000AAKS)
It's been only a week, but this setup has been rock solid (only BSODs are linked to DVBViewer and, likely the drivers for my DVB card). It's very quiet (much better than my optimized old system), and the CPU is amazingly cool (the Ninja stays very close to room temperature, and feels 'cold'). The only thing that runs quite warm is the video card, but this seems to be easily handled by the fans in the case

are u experiencing some sort of "hum" that has been reported by some people (apparently coming from the gigabyte-board capacitors/components?
did u have trouble fitting in the ninja into the gigabyte board?
is that a mobile processor? (i thought all intel c2d cpus started either with a E4xxx or E6xxx
whats the noise level of your machine?
can you hear it? (the hard drives maybe?)
thanx

The Intel E2xxx are standard LGA775 desktop 65nm "Allendale" dual core processors (200MHz FSB as the E4xxx series, plus the E6300 and E6400 266MHz cpus), but with half of the L2 cache (1Mb instead of 2Mb: regular Conroe have a 4Mb one).hexen wrote:is that a mobile processor? For marketing purposes they have been rebranded as "Pentium Dual Core", and priced accordingly to fight in the mid-low end of the market (in Europe they costs from about 60 euros to about 90 euros boxed), so against AMD cpus such as the venerable X2 3600+ and up to the X2 4800+ (at current prices: anyway, according to me, AMD X2 from 4400+ and up are maybe better perfomers).
The 2180 is the current top of the line, and it's an M0 stepping model, as E4500 and E4600 (coming next 21 october) are, so it's a low power (8w at idle) cpu.
