Short overview about 5 P35 motherboards

Post by jojo4u » Thu Nov 08, 2007 4:56 am

Recent issue (22/07) of the german printed magazine c't tested the following P35 mainboards:

Asus P5K: relatively slow LAN, no AHCI
Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R: EIST defective
Intel DP35DP: flow BIOS post (25 s), no overclocking
MSI P35 Neo2-FIR: automatic fan control down to 50 %, no automatic case fan control
limited test: Asus P5K SE: S3 not working

system not specified, but presumably like in recent tests:
Core 2 Duo E6700
Seagate ST3250620AS
2x1 GiByte RAM
Geforce 7600 GT
PSU not specified, but presumably Sharkoon Silentstorm SHA480-9A as in recent tests

The article states about the power consumption of the P35: 6 W in idle and 16 W at load.

Code: Select all

whole system power consumption at standby/idle/full CPU/full CPU+GPU with EIST enabled
P5K SE: 100 W idle
P5K: 6.5/8.6/92/138/166 W
Gigabyte: 3.6/4.4/94/144/171 W
Intel: 3.0/5.9/92/144/171 W
MSI: 3.3/4.7/86/134/161 W
Bookmarks: mainstream boards for C2D tested: 650i, P965, 975X, 945P

6W idle is better than I thought. I was thinking about waiting for the P45 to upgrade to Wolfdale but maybe P35 will do.
Presumably idle is the third number and the first two are standby and something else?
Something is causing system idle power to be very high; will the graphics card be taking 50W in idle?
