Gigabye released GA-MA78GM-S2H rev. 1.1

It looks like Gigabyte changed heatsink design and added a fan plug near the north bridge. I wonder 125W Phenom support and fan controlling ability. I sincerely anticipate M-ATX round-ups in Anand. Come on, don't wait for vendors any more. :P

rev. 1.0 South Bridge = SB600
rev. 1.1 South Bridge = SB700

At least according to the specifications page.

That can't be right... I have the rev 1.0 and have the SB700... not to mention they sold it as SB700 and the package says SB700 rev 1.0

The US Gigabyte site says rev 1.0 has SB600, whereas the main TW site says both have SB700. Somehow I thought the US site would have accurate information.

SB600 is impossible to own 6 SATA ports. I think it's just a typo in US site. Anyway, Gigabyte 780G buyers beware of a newer version might come out.

Does this mean that the heatsink on the NB for rev 1.0 is not adequate? The thing is so hot sometimes that I can't even touch it. I'm thinking of adding a fan or even replacing the heatsink with a HSF. But not sure if it's worth the effort as I only use my media PC for a few hours a day.

the new heatsink doesn't look any taller- just different. i think that the horizontal fins will actually hurt cooling since its not very good for convection.

some makers have made heatsinks which are short where the pci slots are and taller where there is clearance- a great idea if you don't want to pay for heatpipes.

sorry, double post: rev1.1 dual link DVI support?

Post by charonme » Sat May 24, 2008 4:53 am

sorry about this double post
Any chance of rev1.1 working with speedfan? Did the SB/NB/mosfet temperatures improve?

Just remember that the rev1.1 photo is just an example photo and it's very similar to photos of pre-release boards floating around in February.
* The product picture above is only for reference.
* GIGABYTE reserves the rights to alter product specifications at any time without notice.
I'd wait until there is a confirmed release board photo available before getting too excited

Has the Rev1.1 even reached the shops? I thought it wasn't due until mid-June or so.
