AMD 45W quads and tri-cores

Have these been mentioned here? I didn't see a thread if they had.

"Several 45nm Athlons have popped up on price search engines. Although we already talked about most of them, we've got a few more specs this time around, although we still don't have any prices. Let's start off with the new flagship quad-core Athlons, based on the Propus core with no L3 cache. Two models have popped up, the Athlon II X4 605e and 600e. Both feature 4x512kb of L2 cache, HT up to 4.0GB/s, and dual-channel DDR3 1333 memory support. The 605e runs at 2.3GHz, while the 600e is clocked at 2.2GHz. Bear in mind that these are "e" series power efficient parts, and the TDP is an impressive 45W, a first for desktop quad-cores.
Moving on to tri-core, Rana-based CPUs, we can see two models, the 400e and 405e. They are clocked at 2.2GHz and 2.3GHz respectively. The rest of the spec is similar to that of the 6xxe series, minus one core.

And for the first time AMD has gone 45nm with its dual cores. The Athlon II X2 250 and 245 are Regor-based. They are clocked at 3.0GHz and 2.9GHz respectively. Unlike the new quad and tri-core parts, these are not power efficient models, and the TDP is rated at 65W, which is still adequate." Peter Scott at Fudzilla.com

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am starting to become confused by the naming of AMD procesors.

Even better if they trickle down some 45W quads to AM2.

The 45nm dual core Athlons sound interesting. Ample performance and low power consumption.

I wonder how well they will undervolt? My 65nm Brisbane does pretty well already so I wonder how much of an improvement 45nm might provide?

I eagerly await some figures from somebody with some cash to burn.

Yeah I've been waiting for these. I don't need the performance of Phenom II, and I'm sure that monstrous L3 cache adds a lot of power consumption. May pick one of these quads up if they are available for around $100 or so.

Last month I read that the 605e would be out "for sure in mid September".

Yes the new models have lower power consumption but no L3 cache. The odd thing is the Phenom I was kinda slow and the small L3 cache was blamed, so it's kinda strange that the new model has no L3 cache at all. I believe that cache was also shared. Without sharing that's a performance hit as well.

I'd lean towards the 705e for now, until some benchmarks come in.

Found this thread a few days back, apparently some some of these chips are using the Deneb core, as this guy was able to unlock the L3 cache on an Athlon II X4 620. Some benchmarks with L3 cache disabled and enabled are provided, gives you an idea of what kind of affect it has on performance.
