AMD processor for windows home server build? Want passive

Post by austinbike » Sat Aug 08, 2009 1:02 pm

I have built a system and loaded MS windows home server to play around with it a bit.

Currently have an Athlon 4800+ dual in there, but I would like to go as cool and quiet as possible.

Can you recommend a good AM2 processor that I can run with passive cooling?

Any 65W TDP CPU's like X2 250 runs well passively with Ninja.

I'm running mine on a dirt-cheap Sempron LE-1250 and that should run passive no problem. I just haven't bothered trying yet..

if you can find a 2650e , they run pretty cool.

i have a server with one inside (With a normal heatsink) and honestly it probably could run with the fan unplugged.

there are some on ebay for $20 or so (peopel pull them out of the acer/emachines laptops that have them and the desktop sffs they sell)

pretty hard to get from any other source though. 3250e would be ideal but i dont know anywhere to get one.
