ITX board for NAS/FW server ??

Post by Merlinen » Fri Oct 30, 2009 4:43 am

Hi.

I am looking for a ITX board that have 5 or more Sata port and 2xGbit lan.
Or 4 sata + 1x mini pci-e slot (can use a pci-e SSD for system disk).

Neet to be atlest a atom 330 och higher.

The motherboard that fills all my need is Gigabyte GA-6KIEH-RH
BUT i can't find any shop that sell it inside EU, i can order it from US but with shipping+custom 3,5%+tax 25% it is to much :(

http://www.gigabyte.eu/Products/Network ... uctID=2788

Any1 that can help?? :?:

Just a quick question: is there any reason it has to be ITX? mATX will generally be much cheaper for the same features, and since you are making a networked server with many hard drives (I assume), it doesn't seem like you'll benefit much from the smaller ITX size.

MSI IM-Q35 comes to mind, but you'd have to get a cheap Core 2 CPU (in addition to the already hefty price of ~$220).

EDIT: Similar, slightly cheaper board from Jetway.

And another, much cheaper board, that uses AM2+ CPU's (which are cheap); you'd have to use PCI, instead of mini-PCIe, though.

Sure it can me mATX if you can find a case that is with in these dimensions (w:150 h:300 d:300 mm) and have hot-swop or easy access for 4x3.5" disk, can't fit any bigger case were it's gona stand.

Was planing to use the Chenbro ES30068 case. 4x disk for storage and 1 for OS.

www.itxdepot.com don't shipp to Sweden :/

And if it is socket 775 it good becouse i got some E4x00 and E5200 CPU at home.

I have the chenbro case, the motherboard I got for it is this one:

http://www.logicsupply.com/products/ms_9832

It has 4 sata ports, but I added a half-height pci sata board (using the riser http://www.logicsupply.com/products/80h094340) to add 2 more ports internally for the 2.5" and the optical drives, and an external sata port. These days, I might have gone with this Jetway board http://www.logicsupply.com/products/nc92_330_lf For those you can get extra add on cards like this one for more sata ports: http://www.logicsupply.com/products/adpe4s. It doesn't come with dual gigabit ports, but you could get this add on card: http://www.logicsupply.com/products/ad1rtlang and add a standard half height pci sata board in the slot like I did, and you should be good to go. If you can find a supplier who will ship to you. Oh, but actually, Logic Supply ships to Sweden: http://www.logicsupply.com/international So go nuts, I guess! Have fun!

That's what I would suggest, not sure if you can find the motherboard in Sweden but I have one in my HTPC and I love it. It also has four SATA ports and performance would be much better then a 330 Atom, much much better, while having a slightly higher power draw.

How about 4 SATA, 2 eSATA? Jetway NC-81LF - I got mine from LinITX (who do ship to Sweden). And BTW, the on-board Wi-Fi header is actually a superset of USB and can be used for an extra 2 USB if you want.

Looks nice, but can you fit both the add-on card for extra Gbit port+pci-raiser inside the case?

And logicsupply is in USA and i get to pay tons for shipping and all the extra tax+custom :( :(

So i prefer a shop that is inside EU :/

Jetway JNC81-LF can work if i can fit a pci-riser and get some extra sata ports, don't know how server 2008 handels e-sata, if it think it is a internal or external disk.

But I think I who’d pick the "Jetway JNC62K" so I can use a normal DDR2 memory that i already got.

And for AM2/3 socket I need to buy a CPU for about 60-70€, for 775 and Socket-P I already got some CPU's at home.

Did e-mail Gigabyte about the GA-6KIEH-RH were I can buy it and they did only re-play "We don't sell that motherboard in Europe" :(

Am not in a hurry so need to check what board fits me best and the cost.
