Decibel meter

Post by frosty » Wed Sep 12, 2007 10:00 am

Greetings: I used to hangout here in 2003/2004 and I am back.

I am hoping to find a budget/used decibel meter. I don't like what I see on Ebay and would rather support a member here.

Thank you.

F.

I wish you luck.

FYI only - I purchased mine at Radio Shack years ago. It's not perfect but the price is.

A few years ago when I was setting up my surround system, a lot of sites recommended a cheap Radio Shack model that was adequate for balancing out the speakers. They do not seem to have a model that inexpensive anymore.

One company has a CD to setup audio and the program will take into account the low and high frequency rolloff of the RS meter.

I'm sure it's not the deal it used to be. But still....

I have one, but it only goes down to about 50dB...

It's not entireley accurate at very low bass frequencies or very high treble freqencies.

It would not be at all useful to measure quiet fans. As you point out it only goes down to 50dB in volume.

When I looked for a meter a couple of years ago, the best one I found at a low price was a CEM DT-805, which goes down to 30 dB or so.

If you want to go below 30 dB, you will need to spend serious cash.
