Which Power Supply?

Post by Murdock » Thu Feb 22, 2007 10:59 am

According to http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp, I'll need a power supply with up to 350W. I plan a system with Athlon 64 X2 4200+ EE, 1 HDD, NVIDIA 7600 GT video card. Which power supply from the following list is the "best" one (considering noise and efficiency)?

be quiet Straight Power 350W ATX 2.2 (E5-350W/BN032)
be quiet Straight Power 400W ATX 2.2 (E5-400W/BN033)
be quiet Straight Power 450W ATX 2.2 (E5-450W/BN034)
Seasonic S12 380W ATX 2.0 retail (SS-380ET)
Seasonic S12 430W ATX 2.0 retail (SS-430ET)

I've got the S12-430, and I love it. It is only audible if you are about a foot away. I would suggest either of the S12's, and I'm sure many people from this forum will as well.

Hello,

PS calculators are hardly ever correct -- your system might barely hit 150watts worst case, but is probably less than that. Pick the most efficient 300watt PS and you're probably fine.

300w is plenty for that system.

If you want a good micro atx case with a good seasonic 300w psu, go with the NSK3300, i highly recommend it for quiet systems, especially if your on a budget.

If you just want a PSU, anything from seasonic will be good. I also like some of the Antec PSU's. The NeoHE, while it may have had a rough start in life, seems to have fixed all its issue's and its specs and abilities make it a very good contender.
